WBA v NUFC

Getting Man City at home is probably the best draw that the club could wish for as it ticks all boxes.

It's a bonus game where there is absolutely no pressure on anyone as we're as good as out already. It just takes that mindset to instill itself into the Man City lot and there's heroes there ready to be born on our side. It would be typical of Joelinton to get the winner off his arse and be lauded as a bargain £40m buy.

I go back to 1974, funnily enough living in Nottingham at the time.

That tie went to a rearranged first match, then a replay. Our police escort took us miles away from home and a long U turn back.

On that basis, following earlier precedents, it wouldn't be a surprise if we beat them on penalties.

And Joe Wellington isn't really a £40 million buy, he is Ayoze plus £10 million so less than £12 million.

Nearly added that RexN. I wonder how many of the 10k freebies will cough up.
Your reflections from 74 RexN show how now the FA cup has been devalued. Every game in this round is midweek. I’m pleased I seen many games when it was worth something but sad for those have been left with a meaningless trophy

The FA cup is not what it was, there's no magic anymore. It was a chance for lower league teams to mix it with the big boys (who played at full strength) and resulted in a few giant killing exploits. Even Championship clubs are putting out reserve teams as their priority is promotion to the PL and TV millions.

Now it just seems a burden to the big clubs, prioritising the league and fielding reserve teams. It all boils down to money - As i've said before, no. 1 is to protect the investment above all else. Why? Because some billionaire ( Not just Mike Ashley) doesn't want to spend too much money in case it affects his profit margins.

The only magic left now is the qualifying rounds where the non league clubs come up against teams 3 or 4 divisions higher on the pyramid. Some have even almost made it to the first round proper.

Great post UK.

You correctly identify Keegan, Hughton and Rafa as not toeing the party line.

As for the 3 year contract, some of us have ended up working for total bastards who lied to us.

If reports are to be believed, there have been more attempts to buy Ashley out under Rafa than under any other manager. Given his holistic approach to management, it wouldn't surprise me if he was also trying to work in league with potential buyers.

He put his name to blatant club propaganda after another abysmal transfer window

He didn't "end up" working for lying bastards - he actively sought employment from proven lying bastards

Yeah but no but..
f orf you condescending fact checking freak ;)

The thought of Ashley lording it up is unbearable mac
If we reached the semis for example i'd be willing us on but would trigger a self imposed media blackout in the unlikely event of us getting to the final.

I'm counting on the fact that we will probably be the crappiest team in the last eight as a means of escape from the nightmare choices we could face but with Saint-Max and Almiron in the team and the type of saves Dubravka can make on his day the nightmare becoming reality is not impossible
Dubravka out for at least the end of the month so he will miss the QF.

No doubt something to do with Broocies training !

Yes he will be a miss but a chance for one of the others hope I don’t regret saying that but we have no option with the injury to Dubs unfortunately.

Rob is a better keeper than Darlow and I'm not just saying that cos I know him personally.
I'm not one for noticing keepers uk unless they are absolutely brilliant or utter shite,it just never made sense to me how they can stand still for all that time while the rest of us are running around :grinning:

So with my self confessed limited knowledge through lack of interest, Matz Sels struck me as being utter shite,Elliot as overweight, Darlow as inconsistent and
Dubravka as prone to the odd mistake but capable of consistent world class saves.

I don't think either are bad backup keepers. When Elliot was playing regularly (when we finished 5th) he had some really good games. What I also admire about him is even though he is slipping down the pecking order, he gets his head down and concentrates with the task in hand and does not slag all and sundry off. Top pro ethos in my opinion . Good luck to the bloke if selected.

2011-12, Rob Elliot, 1 appearance, in the league cup. He picked the ball out of the net 3 times against Forest. Quite a contribution to a successful campaign.
