Want to be an agent?

Spursex

Alert Team
Well, you can't as after the end of this month agents no longer exist.

It will cost you just £500 to register to be an intermediary, and then £250 thereafter.

You can't represent a minor below his 16th year and you can only sign a player for two years - and worse of all, if the player doesn't pay you and the club does, then it's treated as a taxable benefit to the players income....

Fees will be now strictly controlled in the PL as well...

Oh dark days if you're an agent, the money train just lost a lot of it's gravy...

So hands up who fancies their hand at declaring themselves an 'intermediary' and taking on Levy?! :10: :10: :10:

I have a conscience so it rules me out. What do you think about the Sterling situation Ex it looks like he is off LOL!!!

I think he may well be - if not, his agent is really putting his client into the fan's hate list by fecking around the way he is.

The latest doing the rounds is that it's ManC that are 'tapping' him up - and that they will promise him a starting berth in the centre, whereas Brendan won't...so it could all be able how Brendan uses him?!

The big boys tried to get a retainer of 30 grand at the bigwigs meeting a few months back.... Looks like they failed on that one then.
Just because you have a licensed certification don't make you a good agent...... Have met a few top pricks in my time and some of them I wouldn't trust em as far as I could see em.

The licenced agents wanted to keep it a closed shop, in fairness to them the agents exam is pretty tough and it now means nothing as anyone can become an intermediary (assuming they pass the 'good person' test) for just £500. Also they hate the fact that the player now gets taxed on anything they get paid as a benefit in kind - an awful lot of agents made the clubs pay and the player paid nothing to them, pretty much ever..

They've been cornered; whether this will result in worse deals for players is yet to be seen, but as players now will be have to fully aware of everything the agent gets (which has not always been the case), it 'should' start heavily curtailing payments to 'intermediary's'.

I have to be probably a bit more tempered about my opinion of agents as the bigger agents I invested in were reasonably transparent and seemed to be pretty professional - most of the time and I can't have any complaints about the return I got, but would I ask any of them to act on my behalf and simply to 'trust' them - not in a million years!

I bet we see a lot of accountancy/legal firms entering the intermediary business now as some of the international firms are ideally placed to act globally and professionally.

Agreed ex there are some very good ones out there.... But imo they are few and far between.
The best agent a player has is himself.
Some of these agents give it the biggun about what they can do for a player.
In reality the player is the only one who can do it for himself.
These mugs drop a player as soon as he goes off the radar.... Have seen it many a time. Many are only intrested in the pound note and have made the current situation for me.

ded - hope so ... but they will find a way to keep hold of their route to easy money ....

The bit I'm also pleased about - 'if' it's enforced is that assuming I've been told correctly how it's going to work, they now can't get a kid to sign a representation agreement before his 16th year and/or without his parents/legal guardians agreement - that should help kill off an awful lot of the U-16 poaching that goes on across the World and for which both Barca and RM are/have been in serious hot water for.

I guess the downside to all this is I wonder if the clubs will now find a way to exploit this 'void?'

but, as I said, I think this has all been overdue for a good few years.

I assume that even though there is a major restriction on Agents, it doesn't stop any player having an advisor and though officially paying him himself, will look to reclaim his expenses in leu of a bonus or just demanding the club pays it?

Players like Roy Keane didn't use an agent I believe and used a solicitor. Didn't Paul Gascoign initially do the same before Mel stein (I believe) decided how much money there was in representing players and moved into that field

You bet they will mate...... Like I have said they want their pound of flesh and won't give it up that easy.
There are some genuine guys out there but many are like flies round shit.

from now on Ox, if the club pay anything, any fee's, any expenses, any bonus to an agent/intermediary then it will be treated for tax purposes as a benefit in kind and the player will be taxed on it just the same as he would as if it was part of his income. So the days of a player not being overly concerned about how much an agent took out of a deal may well be over..

there's been some good rep's from legal/accountancy background around for a while now, and as I said I expect more - I also suspect that the PFA's agent arm will get more business than ever now - but that's just as guess, but as they 'charge' less than anyone, it has to happen imho.
