OK, I'll start by apologising for the truly awful attempt at a pun in the title of this piece. I am sorry!

It's pretty obvious what this is about. Mr Kyle Walker. The noises about him moving on to pastures new seem to be getting louder and louder, with 'Man Citeh' being the most talked about destination. Are these noises just baseless, or do we think there's something in them? Personally speaking, based solely upon Poch's selections over the last month or so, I think Walker is as good as gone.

Let's face it, he's served us well, very well, in fact. Yes I've been very vocal on here over the years when it comes to Mr Walker, mainly because he is so bloody frustrating. The lad truly could be one of the best full-backs in world football, but an apparent lack of footballing intelligence appears to restrict him and his game. We see him every game, bursting down the line, leaving everyone in his wake, only to get to the edge of the opponents box, stop, dally, look around, dally a bit more & then play it backwards to whoever is behind him. Frustrating!

There's also his ability to lack thought around our own area, often giving away silly, needless free-kicks in the most dangerous area of the pitch. Let's also not forget his total dependence upon his searing pace, when he's often upfield, way out of position & racing back to where he really should have been in the first place. Frustrating!

That's the bad out of the way and, I should stress, although it appears that way, I am NOT bashing Kyle Walker. I'm sure there are stats out there that will show him as one of the top full-backs in the league this season, but stats really count for nothing in my world. Let's just use Man Utd as an example here. 'Stats' will show that they went on a, what, 17 - 18 game unbeaten run this season? Awesome! How many were draws? And how bloody boring were they whilst playing to simply not lose, rather than playing to win? Stats are open to translation, performances and intelligence are there for all to see.

Why am I so un-bothered by this Walker situation? Simple, Mr Pochettino & Mr Trippier.

Many of the longer serving members on this site will remember me saying a few years ago that we should be going for Trippier (I also wouldn't shut up about signing Ben Davies) and he's proven to be a heck of a deputy for Kyle Walker. Sure, Walker is MUCH faster than Trippier & probably more athletic, too. Defensively I personally think Trippier is better, whilst absolutely believing that Trippier's end product is vastly superior to that of Walker.

Would/will Walker be a big loss, of course! However, do I believe that Pochettino and his scouting team will find a more than adequate replacement? Hell yeah! Could we hold it against Walker if he is indeed off to Man Citeh? I don't think we should. Man Citeh will most likely double, or even triple his salary. He'll be playing with some truly world class players and, most significantly, he's a northern lad. Maybe 'going home' is the biggest appeal of all for him?

I can't even begin to think of the type of figure that Mr Levy would want to wring out of the Man Citeh hierarchy for Walker, but this article in The Telegraph appears to suggest that they would have to pay more than the £30mil that Man Utd paid for Luke Shaw -

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/04/27/man-city-confident-tempting-spurs-selling-kyle-walker/

I could see a figure of nearer to £40mil being demanded, and I believe City would actually pay that, too. That is not a small figure we're talking about there, especially taking into account the outlay that we all know the club is undertaking with the stadium/N17 redevelopments, though Mr Levy has repeatedly stated that the stadium costs would not impact upon squad development and improvements. I can tell you all that I've been told by someone with info/contacts that, after the naming rights are sorted, the stadium costs will almost be 100% covered. I can also tell you that there is another member of this site that has heard the same thing, but from a different source to me. Time will tell, I guess!

So I guess the point of all my rambling is, in short, do you think we'll be making a mistake if we sell Walker? Or do you think we have a perfectly adequate replacement already in our ranks, or could use a portion of the significant fee that Walker's sale would bring, to source an even better option?

Remember, Aurere-Est-Facere! COYS

I wouldn't read too much into rotation of Walker and Trippier. Poch did that with our wing backs last season. If he does go I wish him well.

Trippier was exposed badly against Man Utd (Martial) and always seems to be against better teams, he's a good player no doubt but I've always said he is great against the lesser teams where we dominate possession and he has plenty of time to whip some good balls in, against better teams where he has to defend he is suspect, people calling for him to be number 1 RB next season are way off the mark, imagine him against a good CL quality team. If Walker had the game Trippier had against Man Utd he could get slaughtered on here.

I hope Walker stays but if he does go I hope we go out and spend big on a replacement because we will need to, to get something as good as Walker.

I would only sell him to an English club if we get players in return.

I've said it many many times, he's the best RB in the PL, his one big weakness (which has improved and will continue to improve) is his final ball.

We'll miss him.

:1:

Exactly how I see Trippier Scotty.

And I'm still waiting for the Trippier over Walker merchants to explain why big clubs want Walker, not Trippier.

Some people just have it in for Walker because he made quite a few bad errors a few years ago, last 2 years he has been consistent and easily the best RB in the league, not sure why people are happy for him to go. Hope he stays! He will certainly weaken our team and with our current position we can't afford for that to happen.

You think he will go ex?

Bit harsh on Trippier being exposed . Martial is very good . Trippier had little support on that occasion. Our players responded lethargically. The guy behind Tripps was jogging back, not sure who it was. Then Toby turned his back on the cross which went through his legs deflected into Rooney and then Vert own goaled it.

A freak set of circumstances deduces Trippier is poor against top teams. One critic stated Trippier handled Martial well apart from that incident. One on one against class like that is going to produce success for the attacker sometimes. I have seen Walker fail to stop crosses countless times.

One thing I did notice was Lloris didn't fall back on his arse.....he didn't have time.

Maybe walker is also unhappy about being rotated all the time. If he goes to another team lets be honest he will play virtually every game and not be dropped for the big ones.

I don't want him to go but he will get more money and the RB position all to himself and he will be looking at that.

Sorry I can't be brief or say yes or know as there are too many a lot of factors to consider;

If it were to a club abroad i.e. Barca or RM, I'd say he will go; but given that we only have to sell for football reasons this summer - the decision will be Pochs.

If he decides he can do without him because he's going to adapt our wing-back play approach, then I think he would sanction a deal - at the right price - if it looks like he can get the player(s) he wants in return, (as there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he will be given every penny we raise this summer to use in the transfer market).

It's been said before and I've been at meals/clubs where I've heard agents telling their perfectly happy clients why they should move and how to be so difficult they get it. His agent and all the agents involved in the deal (and there is more than one) will already be figuring out how much they can make from it..

Supposedly, Walkers head has been turned, he knows we can't simply double his wages or more (and one agent I know said that if he does make the move to ManC or Barca he'll be on around #220k per week) - so suspect that if that's true, he'll be pushing for it to happen.

If Poch says Ok - then you can bet Levy won't let him go without a massive English premium attached to the deal, I wouldn't be surprised to see it at £50 mill or more.

I expect him to go.

It is debatable what is Walkers biggest weakness. His final ball, slow decision making, reading of the game and relying on his pace to put it right. Remember Corluka? Ponderous pace but almost always in the right place. He would pass to Lennon very well and Lennon used to charge back and help him out. Good in the air, very strong.

I know we play a different system now but that perhaps should depend on who we play.

Given the size of our squad and the number and intensity of games these days, all players expect to be rotated - the only ones we don't (or are less frequent) are ones where we don't have adequate cover imho and where you have key 'units' like the CB's.

Walkers agent will have been approached by another agent months ago - I don't care what's said in public about tapping up - it happens all the time and it's how clubs find out if they can manipulate/create a deal.

as I precicted sometime ago - his agent would start with: 'he isn't getting the 'respect' he deserves'.....

and guess what, that's exactly almost word for word that he's said today..

I was bang on the money.

Walker has to do what's right for him. Quad is wages and winning things . It's a no brainer which is what Walker needs. Knowing him he'll probably get it wrong and stay. :26:

I get why he even would leave.

I don't want him to leave.

And we already lack pace. Why exacerbate the problem?

He couldnt have been happy being dropped for the semi final and the ars*nal game. It looks like hes going to go which is a shame but then how long did we expect to keep him as we are not winning anything or paying the wages. Didnt realise he was only on 55k a week.

KWP is also quick and younger. Tripps is in attendance. Walker has been here approaching 10 years, but we’re still talking about his weaknesses. If he wants to go so be it. Use the money to get the top end attacker we need.

When did he last sign a contract ?

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/kyle-walker-signs-new-tottenham-contract-england-international-agrees-fiveyear-extension-a3352206.html

He was tapped up after he signed, the 'talk' is that Base got busy a couple of months ago - which would all fit ..

It's worth listening to his interview post signing, and I was told that his new deal was circa £70k + bonus's, of which given we've come second could well be substantial., but obviously not substantial enough now you've been told that clubs are willing to pay you in excess of £200k p.w
