Vs Brighton.

Shocking team selection from the manager.

Dominguez didn’t shine against Malmo, there was no reason to start him today.

I was bewildered by Hutchinson’s absence from the starting XI - he’s absolutely rinsed every full back he has played against this season, and did it again today.

Morato was shocking, but so was Savona - for large parts of the game the right-back position was completely empty.

Between their two goals we had a real go and they made some great last-ditch blocks, but nobody else would have picked that team and it cost us.

0/10 for the manager today.

Just to put up the alternative arguments- hindsight is a wonderful thing. Both goals were lapses in concentration rather than systemic. If domz hadnt played it would have been a more open 1st half which might have seen us 2-0 down inside of 29mins. It was a sucker punch and obviously fooked our plan to weather the storm before having a go.

I get why people want a bit more ambition at home but cant really blame dyche for being cautious given injuries, league position and the fact he has been here a little over 5mins.

Will be much more concerned and fed up if the same thing happens against the dogs.

I just dont get the impression jesus will score many at all for us. Happy to be very wrong.

I just knew the 2nd would come and that would be it. Ground started emptying then.
I like Jesus. Works hard and does some really tidy stuff. Just doesn’t look a goal threat to me…..would be easier to live with if our wingers were going to weigh in, but they’re even less a threat than he is.

I didn't miss it, but one thing all fucking half isn't enough to justify a selection, especially when his piss poor defending opens us up to a terrible goal at a terrible time

Every time the ball goes on that wing, either MGW or Anderson or both have to leave the centre to help out or he just stops and passes backwards.

You point out the one good attacking thing our "winger" managed all half.

And I've just listened to Sean Dyche on the radio admitting he got it wrong
They were all over us for 20 minutes because we gave them too much space to play. That's not just Dominguez. He produced that moment of magic that deserved to put us 1-0 up - a whole different game then.

He was unlucky with the shot which was saved. A better pass from MGW would have seen a tap in, a good header which hit the Brighton players arm, which was on target also.
Add to that his goal/non goal v Liverpool. He's getting closer, but really plays that lone forward role well. His strength and link up play is brilliant, so needs to get that first goal and go forward from there.

I didn't say it was, but us being overrun in the first 20 had little to do with us losing. His absolutely wank defensive header right to their winter's feet did.

It wasn't a moment of magic, it was a cross.

It worked against Liverpool extremely well.
We needed the extra work rate in that first half.
And I don't mind him doing whatever is necessary away at Anfield.

Dominguez is a good defensive midfielder, and there is nothing wrong with having an extra one on in a horrible away game where you just need to stop a world class team.

That wasn't today though

True, but we are a bottom six side facing a side 3 points off second.
And we currently have a mini injury crisis.
I can understand why we played him.
We all wish that wasn’t the case but here we are.
Especially with the games coming thick and fast.

Brighton are high up the table, but prior to today had a poor away record - their only win against 10-man Chelsea in which the stats look very skewed in Chelsea’s favour prior to the red card, although their performance today shows that beating them with ten men is no easy task.

I think we showed them far too much respect and they seized on that. We really had them penned in 2nd half when we created width and got at them. If Morato hadn’t gifted them a second goal, I think there was still a good chance of us getting a point. But that opening twenty minutes where we let them run the show was pathetic.

Ndoye and Dominguez were awful in that spell with neither of them offering support to the full-back. Nor did either of them offering anything in attack to relieve the pressure. That made a big difference in the 2nd half, where the fear of Hutchinson and CHO meant that Brighton couldn’t commit bodies forward - actually attacking was a form of defence.

They were never going to score in that half if not for a calamitous error.

Also I’m baffled that Cunha hasn’t played again since Newcastle because he’s clearly a much better player than Morato (not saying much).

You clearly missed Dominguez tackling their player on halfway, surging away down the touchline, and crossing perfectly for MGW to hit it first time. Almost a goal of the month contender but just whistled wide.

I don't see Dominguez as a problem at all.
I must admit I would have taken Dominguez off but only to get Hutchinson on the pitch. I would have also kept Ndoye on but swapped him to the left to see what he could do until the hour mark.

Er he never works the press and his man marking is non existent, but then so was ndoye and Cho

We saw it last season and still this season.. Dominguez is never a winger , not his fault but he just isn’t.

Which instantly puts us unbalanced, will work some games but most he will struggle. Jesus is on a hiding to nothing when the service in to him is utterly appalling, Williams , Cho, ndoye cannot cross, so regardless of Jesus/woods if the balls don’t come in then they can’t score.

Also on corners and attacking situations, we have zero around the edge of the area, the amount of second chance balls that drop and no one there to have a dig

Spot on. We are a bottom six team that is the truth of the matter.
