Genuine query here:

I'm fairly tech-savvy, and take all reasonable precautions when on t'interweb. I don't click on links in emails generally, and use appropriate internet security software/protocols, etc.

But I keep reading about VPNs and how important they are. Why? NordVPN are offering their plan for $99 per year for three years (equivalent $2.75 per month) - is this a good deal and worthwhile?

My first question would be:

What would you be trying to hide?

Or do you want access to overseas football/films/tv shows etc?

I don't see the point given my online life.

I'm not embarrassed if people know I search for recipes or porn :3:
 
That's my point - I'm pretty sure I have nothing hide (I buy all my porn on DVD in person when I visit Amsterdam, for example) so not looking to 'hide' anything - more for protection.

JPA Jr1 is 13 (almost 14) and we keep a fairly light touch in terms of policing his activities online. I have set up relevant protection on social media, for instance, but we have gone to great lengths to impress how the internet works, how people are often not who they say they are, etc.

I've dabbled with Kodi etc for films, football and the like, but actually, will pay Sky/BT/Netflix and the rest.

I was just, honestly, wondering if/why VPN was a 'must have'?

I don't see the point from my angle. From a kids point of view a VPN might be more problematic in fact.

I only see protection coming into it if you're being naughty, or wanting to stream without paying various things.

Hopefully Tubbz, Heath and Wurzel will chime in as the first 3 names that come to mind with a better understanding of this stuff than I'll ever have.

But from what you linked, the claim of 'must have' goes in my Box 13 along with must have pants to make your cock look bigger etc etc.

If you're not doing anything wrong, don't be paranoid is my attitude.
 
I use IPVanish VPN. It does make a difference for me, but then again I do a lot with it. I download all my TV and Movies and use Kodi for sports.

It sounds like you don't really need one, JPA. As long as you're careful, and don't download or open anything dodgy you won't get any benefit from it.

One of the main uses I have for it is multiple identities on here. I have accounts under the names Sasquatch, Green Tea and a few others to help Fear get more clicks and maintain his internet empire fortune. :19: :19: :19: :19: :19: :19: :19: :19: :19: :19:
