From the OS

Vincent Kompany played his last game for Manchester City in Saturday’s FA Cup final victory over Watford.

The defender has decided to call time on his 11-year association with the Club having won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and two Community Shields.

In total, he has played 360 times, scoring 20 goals.

Paying tribute to Kompany's huge contribution to the Club's success, City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said:

"There have been many important contributors to Manchester City’s renaissance, but arguably none are more important than Vincent Kompany.

"He defines the essence of the club. For a decade he has been the lifeblood, the soul, and beating heart of a supremely talented squad.

"A booming voice in the dressing room yet a quiet and measured ambassador off it, Vincent can be as proud of himself as we are of him.

"I am not sure he expected to lift the Premier League trophy on four occasions during his captaincy but he will be remembered and revered whenever this period of unprecedented City success is spoken about by future generations.

"His leadership, intelligence and determination have seen him adapt brilliantly to playing under four different managers and overcome some debilitating injuries. He is a special character who has answered every demand the club has made of him.

"We now look forward to celebrating his testimonial match in September so that we can properly celebrate his City contribution. He will always be a part of the City family”

Vincent’s Kompany

An Open Letter to the fans.
PART 1 of 2

Dear all,

Community Shield Winners!
Back 2 back League Cup Winners!
Back 2 back Champions of England!
FA Cup Winners!

We’ve just seen the close of an incredible season.
My 11th as a Blue.
And I cannot believe I’m writing this but ... also my last as a Blue.
Countless of times have I imagined this day, after all, the end has felt nearby for so many years.
It still doesn’t feel real.
Man City has given me everything.
I’ve tried to give back as much as I possibly could.
How often does someone get the chance to end such an important chapter, representing a club with such great history and tradition, in such a great fashion?

The time has come for me to go now.

As overwhelming as it is, I feel nothing but gratefulness.
I am grateful to all those who supported me on a special journey, at a very special club.
I remember the first day, as clear as I see the last.
I remember the boundless kindness I received from the people of Manchester.

I will never forget how all Man City supporters remained loyal to me in good times and especially bad times. Against the odds you have always backed me and inspired me to never give up.

Sheikh Mansour changed my life and that of all the City fans around the world, for that I am forever grateful. A blue nation has arisen and challenged the established order of things, I find that awesome.
I cherish the counsel and leadership of a good human being, Khaldoon Al Mubarak. Man City could not be in better hands.

It’s cliché to say it but it’s also so true: without my teammates I would have never been here today. We fought many battles together. Side by side. In good times and in bad. So to all of you, from the 2008-2009 squad to today’s domestic Treble winners: I owe you guys!

A special word also to Pep and the backroom staff: you’ve been superb. You’ve followed me through so much hardship. You made me come back stronger every time. Thank you so much.

I also want to use this platform to express the love that I have for my nearest and dearest.
It knows no boundaries. Carla, Sienna, Sire and Kai, the one and only quadruple that matters.
My dad (Pierre), Christel and François, my true Invincibles.
I live with only one regret. I would have loved to take my mother, Jocelyne, to the Etihad, seeing her chant the City songs sat next to my children and wife. I would have wanted her to see me happy, playing the game that I love at a club that I love. Deep down, I know she’s been with us through all this time.

Part 2 of this open letter, about my future, will follow shortly …

A bittersweet end to the weekend and a fabulous season.

That he is going out on such a high is tremendous but he will be missed. He was there at the start of the revolution, he has been an incredible leader, a talisman and a rock upon which the success we have been privileged to witness has been built upon.

An absolute City Legend :clap::clap::bow::bow::bow:

Thank you Vinnie.

Gutted doesn't even begin to describe how I feel, although we knew it was on the cards.

There won’t be any City fans who aren’t but I had a feeling after his emotional reaction following the win over Leicester.

But that’s not bad is it? Score the winning goal, an absolute belter, in a key game, at a critical moment, to drive your club effectively over the line to secure an historic consecutive league title and the centrepiece of a remarkable, unrivalled domestic treble.

Just outstanding.

Seismic. There has to be a plan to replace him on the pitch - now we have to wonder who will pick up the leadership mantle in the dressing room.

Who will take his place in driving the squad on? There are several candidates who can step up.

I do not think that this was a knee jerk reaction and Vincent Kompany is truly the best Captain we have ever had, I have noticed even when injured or not in the squad he is always there around to inspire and motivate the group of players we have.

It is his decision and we know as fans that he is perhaps at the back end of his career and what a better season in which to end his Manchester City days, he will be forever in the history books of this great Club, part of me wants him to not play for another Team but to hang up his boots and no doubt he will tell us what his future holds in part 2 of his letter to the fans.

No matter what he decides I wish him every success for the future and thank him for his leadership and his love for the Club and fans without which we would not have collected so many titles for the Trophy Cabinet.

Where do you want your statue placing Vinnie?

I think that will come in the form of John Stones

Always hard when a good and talented friend goes on his way.
Of course we have made him our ‘friend’ because of what he has done for City but I’m sure he is a good and loyal friend to his real live friends.
The man has a great heart and soul as is shown by his words to all.
Best wishes Vincent may your life be filled with happiness.

I was really hoping he would stay with us in a coaching capacity but he still wants to play and I'm not surprised he wants to manage too.
Thank you for everything Vince, forever a City Legend.
