Vincent Kompany - In or out of the revised Champions League squad?

Skoorb

Alert Team
By the end of January 2017 the clubs still involved Champions League must resubmit or confirm their squads for the knockout rounds. Changes can be made to the original squad submitted for the group stages.........

Vincent Kompany has not played a competitive game - or any minutes at all so far - for Manchester City since injuring knee ligaments in the unfortunate collision with Claudio Bravo in the away fixture against Crystal Palace in mid November. This was the latest set back in an injury record which is second to none and which has been massively frustrating for the player, the team and certainly disrupted any plans Pep might have had to develop a partnership with John Stones in the heart of City's defence.

It's a big call.

Put yourself in Pep's shoes...........would you include him or not?

Voted no even though I wanted to say yes.

Far too injury prone i'm afraid and a liability. Sorry.

A fit and firing Kompany is streets ahead of anything we have at centre back, that's before you consider the leadership he brings to the team as a whole.

I'd be inclined to name him in the squad on the off chance but who to leave out then? Navas maybe? He's off in the summer anyway and we're well stocked out wide.

It is a good call BD, Navas rarely a game changer and often too predictable to defend against, but I would like to see Vinnie show his injury isn't a mental thing, but do we have time before we name the squad?

Agree that we must be hopeful about VK , but with the Dog injured , do we need to drop anyone, or do we only just have enough players for the squad ?

I think he just has to be included but having said that he is prone to injury and so we would all be holding our breath for the bloke to get through a few games unscathed.

You should have put in a "I really don't know" option, Skoorb.
It's a tough one.
Heart says yes :022:
Head says no. :093:

A good way to put it, but I would chance him because we can win it with Vinny firing.

Assuming Kelechi is now eligible for the B list then you're spot on.

That was my understanding

If he gets minutes against Palace and comes through unscathed then yes.

Otherwise, well, also yes! I mean, imagine how we'd feel if we went on to win the CL without our captain at the helm, heading away inswingers and telling Kolarov where to stand at corners.
