A great article comment that I felt was well worth publishing from Steve Tarpey

Frankly, can't see anything new or enlightening in this at all. A lot of words stating the flippin' obvious.

You can argue about individual players who have played this season but who haven't been that convincing, such as Bacuna, Amavi, Elphick and Bunn, but it really comes down to how Bruce values them as back-up versus possible sales. Bunn, for example, doesn't quite have physique to be a top keeper, but is probably OK as backup, considering that if we get Johnstone it's going to be difficult to sign anybody better to bench sit. Those fine judgements are best left to Bruce and the club.

This is the summer that will pave the way for the next 10 years. Do the right thing villa. Either we are owned by chancers and are heading into the abyss or we will sell the club to the stay away fans and sell 30000 season tickets and hit the ground running like a train because everyone is buying into what we are trying to achieve. We need a catalyst and for me it would be no gabby or richards.

We need to show no fear and relish playing any team in my humble. None in that division we should be kowtowing to surely?!

We've assembled a bunch of average Championship players thats the problem.

Newcastle kept their premiership quality players and low and behold they're back in the premiership.

We shipped all ours out, bought a load of Championship plodders and are now an average Championship side.

Not rocket science really is it?

We can't expect to challenge for promotion based on a great history, great fans and great stadium, we need premiership quality players.

I'd say the only player we have who would look comfortable in the big league is James Chester.

Jedinak is too old, and I'm not convinced Kodjia would make the step up so easily.

The rest. Average.

Say what you want about the team as a whole from last season and how shit they were collectively under a number of shit managers, but you can't tell me that Sanchez, Gueye, Sinclair and Ayew were not/are not Premiership.

We'd have done well to hold on to them all in my opinion, as we would have been stronger this season with them.

I know Ayew stayed for a bit and didn't really pull up any tree's but it's hard for individuals to shine when surrounded by dross.

But yes, I get what you're saying in general, we came down with a pretty shite squad to start with, so we've only made it slightly worse.

Ayew is shite .
Sanchez got found out week after week in the PL with his schoolboy errors .
Sinclair belongs where he is and has found his level - Scotland .
Gueye was useless for us and is often dropped by Everton now

Must admit I thought Ayew would be good but he seldom turned up. Does that mean he's shit or can't be bothered? I tend to think in between the two.

Sanchez was a woeful player.

Gueye started well for Everton, not asked my toffee supporting window cleaner (!) recently as he did rave about him at one point.

I think a few could make the step up to mid to low table. I would guess based on this season and the number of total no shows none of them would light up the top half of the Prem.

Thing is, we don't play as a team, so rely on individual brilliance and the individual brilliance wasn't seen (ie we don't have brilliant individuals)

Be great if they click and prove us wrong but there weren't any signs of improvement at any stage last season so not sure it can just magically 'click'

Only way to do it is to play as a unit though, that will come from manager and coaches.

Sanchez and Ayew aren't suited to hte Premiership , Ayew has hardly flourished at Swansea. Sinclair I think has fou as he hadn't been a success for a while in the PL even before he joined us. Gueye is probably the only geniune PL player that we signed at the start of the 2015/2016 season.

How has this thread turned into a review of our catastrophic Premier League campaign two season ago?

Anyway, now it has, for my two pence worth, Sinclair and Gana would have been very useful this season for us, and would be next season. Anyone else, not so much. Although re Sanchez, you don't play 74 times for a country consistently in the world top 10 without having something about you.

I do agree he wasn't much good for us, but no way as bad as some make out. I think the blame for relegation lies a lot with the likes of Guzan, Richards, Lescott, Bacuna and Gabby and the shambolic management/'leadership' of the club.

We desperately need two or three 'flair' players, guys who make things happen, to bring the best out of the likes of Hogan, and arguably would help to improve Kodjia. We desperately need goals next season, otherwise, we'll be mid-table again, no question.

I think it is abundantly clear to everyone , whether thats fans, manager , players, owner, CEO or media that we need to hit the ground running.

I mean, I am not gonna demand a 6-0 win on the first day, we beat Arsenal on the first day a few years ago and a fat lot of good that did us.

But at the very least we need to be top 6 come the of the window and either in or within a win of the top two by the end of November and if not I think everyone knows what will happen next.

But, I fully expect us to be and this time next year we will be celebrating.

Oh, as for Gana, even for us he was class and how anyone can think he is poor for Everton cleatly hasnt watched any footy or sports news this year. 33 starts is not what i call "not playing"

You can debate players abilities until the cows come home , fact is that there have been a shed load of players who haven't performed as well here as before or indeed after they have left - the question has to be ... why is that then. You have got to look at various reasons, including past and present managers.
