On bbc4 program about a black versus white football match in May 1979 at West Bromwich including a young lad called Vernon Hodgeson who apparently had a short spell at Lincoln, does anyone remember him?

I have a book covering every player who made a City appearance up to 1994 and this fella does not appear. The only things missing are pre season friendlies if he was a trialist

Knowing how poor the BBC often research these things I suspect they have mistakenly accredited this to Simeon Hodson who played for both us and WBA in the late 80's

Vernon Hodgson was a full-back who was an apprentice with Birmingham City, signing as a professional in September 1977. The manager who signed him for Blues was Willie Bell. He was the club's first senior Black player. Hodgson was released at the end of the 1977-78 season and by October 1978 was playing for West Bromwich Albion reserves.

Willie Bell left Birmingham shortly after Hodgson signed senior forms and was manager at Sincil Bank from December 1977 to October 1978.

He may have briefly been a trialist in the summer of 1978, but there is no evidence he played for the reserves in 1977-78 or 78-79
