V Northampton

If a fan is better when attending the ground, does it stand to reason theres also a hierarchy dependent where in the stadium one sits?

Given the cheapseats are behind the goals, are supporters in the Bridgford or Trent End worser than PT or Clough?

Or does none of that matter?

Well obviously the fans in the cheap seats aren't as good, but you can make up for it with other stuff like how much you abuse the players, how much you spend on pies etc.

That is highly optimistic

Knockaert, Garner, Krovinovic, Christie, Sow, Ameobi, Ribiero all played a significant part in the season. For the most part, that group played a greater part in the session than many of those that remain.

If you add in Freeman and Murray, that is 14 of our miserable total of 37 goals disappearing from the squad. That's the sources of 38% of our goals last season disappeared without replacement.

You can add another 9 assists disappearing into the ether.

wow, just 14 goals, so we lost absolutely nothing at all.

Many of us think even BJ could get double figures on his own in a decent season. Lolly was out pretty much all year and if hes fit he could add double figures. Mighten is another year older and no doubt better and will score goals. So these 2 or 3 existing players doing the same as 6 or 7 that have gone is a dream scenario.

Youre right that you can have an opinion, but it doesnt seem so right to dismiss all the actual positive things. Like the players mentioned, the average age of the side to drop, the stability in a manager, a full pre season, a new patient transfer policy, if you start at relegation fodder then add all these positives you cant still see us as relegation fodder

Its actually feeling a little like the Paul Hart season

Dont forget merchandise- is there a hierarchy between those that buy shirts coats, catbowls. Surely someone who spends a grand is a better fan than those who only spend 100quid?

Just a brief word on being a fan. ( It's just an opinion )

You're either a fan or you're not, it's simple, you don't have to be at the ground to be a fan although attending games will give more insight.
Over here I know another couple of blokes who are nearly as devout as me both from Notts originally.
Two or three years ago my eldest son took me to his watering hole, roughly 10 or 12 miles away where he introduced me to a couple of Aussie fellows who turned out to be Forest fans although they had never been out of the country. They had a sort of setup in a corner of the pub, photographs, pictures etc and were quite definite in their knowledge and views. I was surprised. I've seen them a few times since, they came across as genuine and subsequently it's played hell with my stock of Forest literature, programs, etc, also given me a certain amount of pleasure.
On Vital there are several overseas fans who make a contribution and I'll bet there are more who are content just to read.

They are all fans. ( In my opinion )

I spoke to Ian Bowyer about it a few years ago, he was still livid with Doughty. They both went to his office with a plan for the new season only to be told the players were all for sale

Im still livid too. At least part of the reason I dont subscribe to doughty was a god. On the one hand he kept us afloat but on the other he massively held us back. Football isnt a science (even if you can apply scientific techniques) and occasions require a gamble or investment. Doughty got burned early and never really got back on the horse imho.

Current owner feels more savvy and more prepared to make educated gambles. Fairly sure he has more money. That doesnt make him a god either but he is the most likely person to achieve such status we have seen at the club since clough left.

Spot on imo. One of the things that makes me proud to be forest is a foriegn fan. They often know more than us locals. Do think there is a difference between fan and supporter. A fan is someone who follows the club, a supporter is someone who finds a way to give money to the club. Both are welcome. Controversial?

This is comprehensively not a squad that can afford to lose any source of goals. We are not a side that scored 70 and can afford to lose some prowess at the cost of slipping towards mid table.

This is a side that should have been relegated based on the number of goals scored. All three relegated sides outscored us. Only Derby scored fewer (by 1). We have never scored so few goals per game in a season.

We survived by having the 5th best defensive record in the division. Great. We are losing two specialist fullbacks from that tough defence; as well as two highly effective defensive midfielders.

The reality is, things are now too late to get a good start. The opportunity for this window to be a masterstroke has probably passed. The opportunity for it to be a disaster grows by the day.

I'm genuinely not convinced the depatures are going to do much to the wage bill either.

I'm just not as negative as you Pope, that's your raison d'etre.

We may well have scored less goals, but you fail to add that only 4 teams conceded less than our 45.... the top 4 sides. The bottom sides conceded at least 34% more - so that is a positive.

Promotions are built upon a sound defence, but clearly we need to score goals and that will be being addressed.

I forgot Ribby, but he wanted to leave and he featured in less than 60% of our games last season and we have others than can play left back. Christie & Garner were the 2 that we will miss.

Of the rest you mention, BJ or Carvalho will offer as much or more than Krov.

Samba Sow... injured, Freeman - ditto.... negligible impact of them leaving.

Murray scored 2 in one game, that's the sum total of his input.

Knocky.... I've wanted us to sign this bloke for years, but was disappointed by his petulant behaviour and poor return.... absolutely no loss.

When others weren't, Ameobi was a player that I was pleased to sign, but another that refused a contract and then refused to play for last 8 games or so - a complete enigma, frustrating one minute - electric the next - I'm confident that we will replace him.

You will always see the negatives and that's fine, I just don't get wound up by the lack of signings, because I look at the bigger picture, I look at others teams and the abundant lack of signings and know that financially we are better placed than many (excl' epl relegated sides) in this division.

We have confident young players coming through the system - we are specifically making signings for the future and we now have a CEO & scouting network, that should see us refrain from signing those experienced pro's looking for that retirement bonus.

As I said - have some patience, I'd rather we get the right signings than adding to the bomb squad.

BJ has the potential, whether his Dad lets him stay is another matter - clearly, I hope he does stay and I hope that he gets a chance, as well as Gabriel & Fornah.

I think Swan, Konate & Fernandez will be loaned out.

Fortunately, we don't need to sell - but every player has his price and I'm not that worried about signings, because whilst we do need some signings (& we will make some soon) - if CH can get the best out of Carvalho and then, benefits from a fully fit Lolley, Grabban, McKenna, Colback & even Taylor - plus, play the youngsters = BJ, Mighten, Gabriel, Fornah etc - then, I don't see that we are that much weaker.

We obviously need signings, but I'd rather it be 5 or 6 quality (incl' loans) rather than the mass turnover we have seen.

I agree with this, I think the Hart season analogy is possibly a good one too. BJ Mighten and Carv could easily step out of the shadows and do what Reid, Daws and jj did for that side.
We need 2 or 3 top, top signings imo and I'm sure that's doable if we are patient?
