What’s your point here? He was average today and whilst I hope Glasner can make him the £30m player we hoped he would be, it’s very disingenuous to suggest that he’s not been mostly poor in the games he’s played. No issue whatsoever if your point is ‘let’s see if he can come good’ but your post suggests that he’s been wrongly criticised for his poor performances and people’s ‘eye test’ has been wrong. Let’s be clear, on the whole he’s not been good and has a lot to prove.

I disagree that he has been anywhere near as bad as you claim for a start

But as with all the young signings last season - they are all 2-3 season projects. People knew this. But people couldn't help themselves suddenly demanding they deliver top quality, immediately and consistently

I think that's fair comment. Look at what £30 million is buying this transfer window and that's if you can even spend it. The sort of player every team wants is £100 million and again thats if you can spend it and the player wants to come which is even harder to pull off. We are a player development club, the clubs often stated policy and that won't change unless there has been a seismic shift behind the scenes.

There is something fundamentally wrong with filling our squad with 2-3 season project players and then putting our entire European campaign on their shoulders in the first season.

That seems like a planning error to me.

People expected performances from the players because they kept being put on the pitch.

Disagree entirely

This is what everyone has been clamouring for, and in reality is the only way for a club like us to afford the level we are at.

It is literally the Brighton/ Brentford/ Bournemouth model

Look at Brentford. Signed Damsgaard in his early 20s, took until his third season to start the majority of games

Schade- signed around 20, first season 3 starts, second season 24, third season 32

Brighton - Baleba's first season saw 15 starts, the second 31

£30m+ on Kostoulas last season from Olympiakos. 2 starts, 19 as a sub, 2 goals.

Our fans would be demanding a lot more immediately for a £30m fee. But these clubs play the long game and support their young players long term even if they cost a lot.

Having old hands like Welbeck who can just do it week in week out helps, but we also have that with players like Wood

We signed a bunch of young players last season, and of those only Hutchinson played a lot of games.

That's actually a perfectly decent return and we should be planning our window around the rest stepping up more over the next two seasons rather than "his shitting" them and flogging them

But that's how you develop players isn't it? I'm willing to bet that every player we brought in last year and stays, will be better this season.
