Nottingham Forest’s Drop-Off in Front of Goal Shows How Much They’re Missing Chris Wood | Opta Analyst https://share.google/o9uOnQriJmW2hZ5fT

From the article I like this below. (It earlier points out our finishing in Europe has been ruthless)

"There is no word on when Wood will be back, so others will need to step up. They’ve shown they can do it in Europe, so maybe just play the Europa League theme when the players come out and try to trick them into finishing well."

Yes, but there is one major problem with that; the opposition we are playing in Europe is way, way below the standard of what we face in the PL.

There is no quick fix or magic panacea to our problems; we just have to battle our way through it.

The one aspect which causes the most concern to me is our lack of urgency.

You look at teams like Leeds, for example; they are not a good side, far from it, but they roll their sleeves up in every game and leave nothing out there - I cannot say the same for ourselves.

We are struggling to score goals, but that should be mitigated by having a capable defence, only problem is they are not that capable at the moment.

The two goals scored against us on Sunday were schoolboy errors which should never have happened.

The defending of Williams for the first goal was incredibly poor, on so many levels, and there was a touch of the "couldnt give a fuck" about Murillos defending for the second goal.

Defence is one area where we do have options, and Perreira needs to start utilising them.

It really feels recently like Anderson and Murillo have their minds elsewhere

I think with Anderson it is burn out; he badly needs a rest.

It is possible that Murillo has had his head turned, although it is too soon to jump to conclusions on the back of two indifferent performances.

I did look at his defending against Welbeck, for the second goal, and immediately thought the worst; Welbeck should not have been scoring against a moderate defender, never mind one of Murillo's ability.

The first goal was a comedy of errors, all surrounding one player, Nico Williams - it was Keystone Kops stuff - he missed the bounce of the ball and then lost his player, the ball gets half cleared and he heads it out, he then chases after the ball, leaving his man free who inevitably gets the ball and shoots.

You could make a case for Murillo doing better for that goal, but I suppose the damage had been done at that point.

Maybe I am being a tad too harsh; when you are down there, nothing goes in your favour, not the decisions, and certainly not the bounce of the ball.

Ever had that round when you start par, par, birdy, then great shot in on 4 and inexplicably 3 put? Next tee your already feeling sorry for yourself and sure enough again from nowhere double bogey. Rest of the round up to about 15 a mixture of bad luck and bad play. 16th tee you think fuck it. That's where we are now I reckon.

Yes, I have seen some Golfers suffer like that, not me.

Whats a Birdy?

Surely this is stating the obvious though. Everybody knows we're missing the Chris Wood of last season. But even if he'd played every game this season there is no guarantee that he'd have performed to the same levels.

I would certainly agree that Anderson is looking like burnout but he is also trying to do too much. Williams seems to be in a similar situation in that he is trying to get forward at every opportunity but just doesn’t have the legs to get back into position when we lose the ball.

It looks like Netz has something about him so I am expecting to see him get more minutes.

I agree, but I think we have to factor in the difference that the extra games in Europe is having. Neco has looked absolutely spent in the last couple of games which has led to errors and consequently goals.

To me there seems to be a clear pattern, we seem to have one game where we roll our sleeves up, leave nothing out there and put on a good performance like v Liverpool... followed by a couple of games where we look clueless and disorganised.

Sangare was left on his own in midfield a lot of the time against Brighton.. Anderson was on the left wing, right wing, central defence... all over the place trying to make something happen, which is great to see ...but that means we're a man down in the middle of the pitch when the ball gets turned over.
