US Presidential election

Except the Mueller report found that....

The Mueller report found that the Russian government "interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion" and "violated U.S. criminal law".

Yes. As per the words you quoted, it found the Russians interferred but the words "Russia" and "Trump" are not actually synonyms for each other.

The likes of CNN framed the news and always used the buzzwords of "Russian Interference" knowing people like yourself would see Trump and Russia as the same thing.

What the report showed is that there was no actual concrete evidence of collaboration between Trump's election team and Russian agents. There was no evidence, for example, that the leaks about Clinton's server were authorised by Trump. There were circumstancial evidence that some of Trump's colleague had had prior business associations and meetings with Russian citizens, but nothing to show there was any collusion between the two parties.

The whole impeachment thing only really ramped up once Trump had spoken to the Ukrainian president and had asked if the investigation into corruption by Hunter Biden was going to be reopened. On the basis of the Hunter Biden laptop leaks, if the evidence on the hard drive is true then you can understand why the Democrats were extra incentivised to remove Trump.

The Hunter Biden enquiry will be swept under the carpet by the press.
It doesn’t suit the current agenda.
The FBI even agreed to suspend it during the election given what happened with Clinton.
It’s just politics.
After old sleepy Joe stands down in 18 months and President Harris is sworn in, the Hunter scandal will come to light.

Short statement from the Workers Solidarity Alliance:

On Wednesday, January 6th 2021, an attack organized by a far right wing mob on the Capitol Building of the United States took place while congress met to certify the presidential election results. They were encouraged by a deranged authoritarian and outgoing President of the United States, Donald Trump and focused heavily on his corrupt grift and inflated ego. Even though the event was anticipated and all but announced publicly, the police initially appeared to treat the mob with “kid gloves” especially when compared to how they have treated Black Lives Matter protests and others just this year, something even the mainstream media has commented on.

The take over of the Capitol building has long been in the making. The Nixon era gave a phenomenal rise to the white ultra-right authoritarian Christian evangelicals. The rise of the Reagan right was the first “wink and nod” by elements of the political establishment to ultra-right elements. The wink and nod to so-called “patriot” groups. Many pretend they are right to bear arms groups, using them as a cover to arm, train and reach out to young men and women in the military. Running alongside the shift to the mainstream hard right, there was a slow growing pro-nazi and white nationalist current developing. The “Tea Party” within the establishment helped to inspire authoritarianism and to nudge the floodgates open. Trump, and his allies, merely were the final expression of a 40 year descent into a longing for an open, racist, pro-white supremacist persona to help manifest or at least encourage, an open acceptance, tolerance and place for an American authoritarianism.

Laws used against the “right” today, are the same used against the left and workers movements yesterday. Defeat the ideas of authoritarianism daily. Because the laws you may cheer today, may be used against you tomorrow.

The battle against authoritarian ideas (religious, political, racial) within the working class is part of the class struggle. The battle against the state, right wing religious power mongers, and the petty bosses manipulating working class folks is a class struggle. The struggle against hate and bigotry as manipulated by those in power or wanting to be in power, while crossing class lines, will ultimately need to be won within the working class. Patient organizing and education of the issues, against those within the class who will sell it out at the sniff of money or power (or both) and a place to dominate is a must. In order to defeat the larger enemy, we must defeat it within our own ranks for starters. Our struggle will always be a parallel one.

Trump isn’t the problem. The system is. Organize, educate, overthrow.

77% of GOP voters approved of Trump's job performance. Who are they? lol

Who knows ? But it would seem there are around 57 million of them ! Bearing in mind what happened at the Beacon of Democracy, a 77% showing underlines how divided voters still are in the USA. How does that get fixed ?

The 16 million can suck it up and get on with it. They appear to be doing so. The 74/77/57 million need handling with kid gloves while some of their number riot, arm themselves and threaten.

Thanks I've been meaning to look up what this GOP was referring to.

Do you know why one party has an elephant and the other a donkey as their emblems. Seems a bizarre choice.

Satire in the 1860s from the looks of it.

Thing I find most interesting about the history of the parties, is that they flipped.

In Lincolns time, the Republicans were the largely northern anti-slavery, party, whereas the Democrats were the party of the south and all that entails.

Some shit happened to put it mildly, including vote chasing by the Dems, and they ended up largely switching roles.

So when Republicans say they are the party of Lincoln, that is correct, however chances are if Lincoln was a politician today he'd be accused of being a liberal elite Illinois lawyer.

History aside, what I find amazing about US politics is that Trump actually increased his vote and had he handled Covid differently, would most likely have won comfortably.
The defects in his personality seemed to bypass millions of American voters.
I really can’t figure that one out.
