Unresolved film/tv endings

Why do they do it? Sudden endings out of the blue, when there are still things up in the air you expect to see finalised. Pretentious crap imo, oh great, I can make up the ending in my head, awesome. Why not just have a conclusion? It actually pisses me off lol, like a feeling of being ripped off, why do that? Why? :21:

It often happens in TV series due to show cancelations meaning they either leave it completely open or cobble together something within budget that gives some sort of resolution.

This is a bit different what i am on about but the ending of the shining when Jack is in the picture from the 1900's and is called a different name by the hotel bloke he see's makes me confused.

Yeah I can dig that, tv shows always want to continue so often are left open ended, or are as you said can be cancelled abruptly too, I was really only thinking of the Sopranos one as an example in shows.

I see it more frequently in films though, which I find far less forgivable, and actually infuriating, fair enough if it's sequel bait, then the story hasn't ended, but when there's obviously going to be no sequel, I just feel it's laziness and lack of story finalising ability wrapped up in arty fartyness when they do it on purpose personally.

Yeah like unexplained endings can be annoying too, tell me the story and finish it dammit :26: lol

I watched 28 Days Later last night, a bloody anoying ending.

I was watching Rampart with Woody Harrelson, that's what inspired this thread,

***** spoilers *****

you didn't even find out if he got away with it or not. Which was the whole point of most of the film.

It was a strange film anyway, all star cast, but pretty crap film, made me wonder why so many big stars were on board, money I guess, but still, seemed weird that they'd bother.

And then a crap ending was like a kick in the teeth for tolerating what was mostly crap, because I'm a Woody Harrelson fan and it had a nice aesthetic with the filters they used and the realistic casual manner the dialogue was spoken in.

No Country For Old Men was another that pissed me right off, same reason really. I don't care if the good guy, bad guy, or complex guy wins in the end, I just want to know! lol

So annoying, I'd much rather happy endings.

Oh, sorry, you were talking film and tv...
