Unloved Latics?

I watched the Channel 5 EFL show yesterday evening as I have done all season and yet again there was scant coverage of the Latics, but praise aplenty for Blackburn despite their loss at Charlton. Am I being paranoid or are we being ignored despite a great season and being on the verge of winning the League 1 title? No mention or credit for our heroics in the cup beating three Premier League teams and the fixtures backlog we have negociated. No mention of the great job Paul Cook has done along with his coaching and medical team. I will be interested to see how much coverage and praise we get when we win the title next weekend.

i just said the very same thing watching the seemingly endless clips of the meaningless Bradford match. Then they went on to big Blackburn up for some reason that escapes me. The program has peed me off all season by not covering us much at all. Thank heavens for Ifollow.

I’m guessing you didn’t bother watching last week then when they talked about us with John Coleman after we got promoted. Blackburn got promoted midweek of course they were going to talk about them.

I’ve watched all season and we’ve had little or no credit the majority of the time.

I’d agree tbh a poor review all season. Maybe they see us more of the visitors rather than here for long term so little interest. Not watched last nights yet but I’ve thought all season a poor write up on the tics

C_Latic's right. We were promoted last Saturday, and got our plaudits then. This week was Blackburn's turn.

As for beating 3 Prem teams in the FA Cup, I suppose the reason they may have left that out is because it's the EFL show.

Same applies to BBC regional coverage. Blackburn are always mentioned whenever they play, however we get scant coverage and nothing at all if there are Prem fixtures.

yep totally agree. there tb, dwdan and latics68. its been rubish all seeson.

reminded me of are prem time when sanctimoneous jugg ears always tryed to belittle us or we only got a 30 secs of play. even when we beet the big teams.

i dont exspect much diferent when we get into the champeonship either.

Could be worse we could be Wigan rugby, no mention of them the other night when they won,,yet women's football, ice hockey, women's boxing and netball all got a mention on the BBC.
Quite rightly anorl, rugby league doesn't even rank as a minority sport anymore.

could not care less what anyone thought of Wigan outside of its fans, fuck the lot of them, other teams, the media, ex players, other managers, commentators, Tom Selleck, Henry Winter, the Pope

For those older supporters will remember the 80s when we couldn't even get into the post and chronicle (now evening post) never mind be on the telly. And when we did get on the telly elton welsby apologised for the quality of the football. V Bury

Chicken and egg scenario. The media focus on the teams with most support ( potential viewers, readers and listeners), yet clubs are marketed through the media. For example, at present, there is a political imperative to promote female sport, even though it does not generate as many fans. However, with more TV, radio and newspaper coverage, the number of paying fans is likely to increase. A kind of big club monopoly exists in football, giving smaller clubs like us a difficult job to expand our fan base, unless we are able to sustain success on a long term basis.
