he vice-chancellor of the University of Bath, facing accusations of excessive pay, has stepped down. Dame Prof Glynis Breakwell, the UK's highest paid vice-chancellor with a salary of £468,000, had become the focus of criticisms of rising pay among university leaders. Lecturers had complained that her pay had risen much more rapidly than the salaries of university staff.

Rather than blaming her, why aren't the people who appointed her having to answer questions?

If somebody was dumb enough to pay me that much I wouldn't say no.
 
Step down because you are getting paid too much? Sod that.

It's not her fault she's getting paid too much. If it's a problem, it's on whoever agreed to pay her that salary.

Seriously though, it would be nice for the people responsible to answer these questions rather than the person being paid. Of course, the sceptic in me is suspicious about the reasons for the pay increases, was it all above board and is the VC quitting an attempt to stop further investigation?


 
Some of the lesser paid academia started this ball rolling, raised questions through the student union asking for a break down of her actual targets and what was he salary benchmarked against. So I can only assume its better for her to fuck off that stand her ground.

The fact that she will be fully paid until, I think February 2019, and a car loan for £31,000 written off just rubs salt into the wounds.......
