Unintended Consequence of Promotion

Vital Champions League
John Busby referees Championship games.

Not forgotten and not forgiven. There is margin for error, there is subjectivity, even ineptitude. Then there is a whole different layer of sediment - the Busby layer.

Is that the idiot that refereed THAT game against Peterborough and awarded them the worst penalty decision I have ever seen given??

That's the one. His reward was 'promotion' to the Championship games. Probably on the reccommendation of Darren Ferguson.

For those who don't remember, the Peterborough Telegraph covered it here, admitting it was a terrible decision and then going on to defend it on the basis that we had bought a load of similar decisions earlier on in the season - lots of Brennan Johnson and Jorge Grant dives apparently. Complainants included Ryan Lowe and Steve Evans, so it must be right. ,

Find it fascinating how people view that incident.

I was far more pissed off with the referee.

Szmodics was a prat, but the fact the ref fell for it was utterly baffling.

We lauded and applauded Rheady for his shithousery, so it’s interesting that people choose to go in on Szmodics.

The referee, though, was an absolute embarrassment. It went beyond just being a human error, it was pure and blatant incompetence.

He was lucky to keep his job.

Totally agree. Szmodics did what players have been doing for a good few years now and took a dive. Indeed we have had players doing the same playing for us.
To me the ref was the major culprit.

Did you see the video of him outside after the match laughing and gloating with the Posh fans.

Tbh I hate blatant cheating by any players including our own. I have a moral compass and I need to feel comfortable looking at the person in the mirror in the morning.

If I was a cheat I couldn't do that but I accept we are all different and some don't have those values.
