But Ireland more prosperous than UK??? How did that happen?

Britain has leapfrogged Germany to become the most prosperous of all major European Union countries.As David Cameron battles with Angela Merkel over his plans to curb EU immigration, the Prime Minister has been boosted by news that the UK is one of the best places to work and do business.Legatum Institute's 2014 Prosperity Index reveals Norway as the most prosperous country in the world, while the Central African Republic finishes bottom of the rankings.

VOTN, your surprise at the UK being below Ireland reminds me of the late Emelyn Hughes who, after Ray Houghton's goal had defeated England in 1988, was heard to declare plaintively,"But this is Eyeland - surely we can beat Eyeland?"
I take these studies with a huge pinch of salt. At the height of the Celtic Tiger, they were saying that Ireland was the richest country in the world.
 
All I know is, the UK owns a huge part of the Irish debt and Germany has a far mure sucessfull manufacturing industry than the UK. It just all seems a bit confused.
