Tunisia

Booked to go to Tunisia.... never been before. Have asked Skeggy and he said he had one of his best holidays there. Was a bit weary of it when I first booked it. Never been there before so is there anything I need to look out for - eg: locals ripping you off etc.

Anyone been? what did you think?

Yeah, she looks like a total skanger but she got off in end, didn't she? I dunno whether that was justice or not. I didn't follow the case at all.

Not been. A mate of mine married a Tunisian.

Hope that helps.

When you off, you got an all inclusive etc?! If the hotel complex is nice enough, doesn't always make much of a difference what the rest of the country is like really!

I didnt like it much. The hotels, beaches are nice, the taxi's are cheap etc but the food I thought was poor. I also had stones thrown at me by the locals when I ventured out of the tourist areas. There was also a battered up women who was wearing just rags, she was holding a baby & begging in the road - it was quite an upsetting scene to witness. You will also see a huge poor/rich divide with the poor just living in huts at the side of the road. Then when you come to the tourist areas the hotels are like palaces, really done up well. You will see camels on the beach and you can have a camel ride etc which is an experience.

all inclusive - I don't plan on leaving the hotel to be honest - for the reasons GT pointed out

That happens all over the world though. Sadly it is the way of the world.

Even in New York, you go on the bus the one way and all is opulence. Go on the tourist bus the other way and it almost feels like you are in another dimension.

South Africa was the worst. Where my prize was (saying prize because I couldn't have afforded it so don't want to look like billy big balls) it was the richest real estate in Africa. 10 mins down the road the private tour taxi would drive you passed the shanty towns. I'm sitting there with a Tag watch on feeling ashamed.

The shame soon passed though... ahem! :12:

The world has no balance, you can't really take anything of that on I'm afraid.

Green Tea you do talk some crap.

Barney as I said its marmite you either love it or hate it. We ventured into a market that was for locals no hassle at all. The staff in the hotels treat dickheads who swan about like their shit don't stink like idiots. But if you're pleasant and polite they can't do enough for you. Plus where you're going, hotel, they've recently built a mini water park.

Lovely Country. Lovely People. Great Food. Great experience.

The only downside is that the booze is a bit watered down (except the wine) and people can smoke indoors still, which some do find a bit annoying.

I'm going back next March for another visit.

Went to Hammamet in 2008

Had an absolutely superb time. All the family say they loved it. If you have chance to do a camel ride in the Sahara, do it, and the Star Wars set.

Don't know the exchange rate now but it was ridiculously cheap when we went.

Enjoy

Please ya selves England has some fantastic country.

Yes, it does, but I do feel it is our duty to see what the rest of the World has to offer as well. How can we compare if we have nothing to compare it to?

If some people think Tunisia is bad, they should open their eyes. There are parts of the World that would really shock them, if they think it's that bad. Go to some of the poorer African Countries, or parts of Asia less developed.

Then again, that's not why some travel is it?

Yeah I have done a bit of travelling and seen some great sites and met some great people along the way but thats me I love everyone unless they don't love me, then I would kill them.
