ee bah gum lad, chuffing cycelists in't area!
Yes it is upon us, I was living in Kent last time the Tour de France went thru the UK, in fact it went right outside the house.....at amazing speed. Now its come to Yorkshire and although not going right past where I live this time I shall be out on Sunday to have a gander.
Excitment oop norf is palpable and huge crowds are anticpated - We had to go over the Moors last Sun to Blackburn to pick up a new (2nd hand) car and travelled on a fair few miles of the course ....which was chocka with amateur cyclists having a go.
There is a very good website http://letour.yorkshire.com/stage-1 with a 'Hyperlapse' run thru the 200k routes in about 15 mins each. Much has been said about the first stage going thru areas of outstanding beauty which it does but personally I would recommend Stage 2 (Sunday) for scenery and potential mash ups in very narrow lanes with stonewalls. Ouch. They even cross a reservoir at one point.
Howarth, Oxenhope and Hebden Bridge are very scenic (you can play spot the lesbians in Hebden Bridge). Of course the scenery slacks off toward the end of day 2 as the route enters South Yorkshire from West Yorkshire
( :17: that one's for you Barns)
So if you've never visited God's Own County or watched the Tour you can combine the 2 this weekend
Allez! Allez!
