Trump

To gain an insight into the problem It may be an idea to look at these figures ...

<img src="https://infographic.statista.com/normal/chartoftheday_10320_drug_deaths_in_europe_n.jpg" alt="Mountain View" style="width:504px;height:428px;">

As highlighted by the latest edition of the European Drug Report, Estonia is the country with the most drug-induced deaths per million population in Europe. At 103, 82 above the EU average, only Sweden comes close with 100 deaths. At the other end of the scale, Portugal, where drugs were decriminalised back in 2001, had only 6 per million people. Looking outside of Europe, Estonia's problems are pulled into sharp relief by the rate in the United States. In 2016, there were a staggering 185 deaths per million.

It's very much an Oz problem too Boszi and results in what they term "doctor shopping" over here.

Still waiting to find out how our new system works in an effort to stop it.

Orf, one possible way to stop it may well be to adapt the plan of action the Chinese took when faced with similar problems a few years back.

Opium has had a long history in China. It was first introduced to the country by Arab traders as a medicine in the seventh or eighth century. By 1620 however, Portuguese traders off the coast of China had introduced its use as a luxury habit. But because opium was relatively rare and therefore expensive, it affected only the well-to-do, primarily young men of wealthy families, a@@@@ whom it was regarded as a status symbol.

This all changed in the 1770s, when England conquered India and Burma. Britain needed large sums of money to colonise these two vast tracts of land, and opium was the answer. Taxes levied on the product brought in the much needed revenue while Britain's merchant ships carried it to the most convenient market: China.

As more and more addicts were created, Emperor Dao guang (1821-1850) of the Qing Dynasty became alarmed. He ordered that Guangdong (Canton), the only port then open to foreigners, be closed to all opium traffic. But British captains evaded the edict by smuggling opium into China with the help of local pirates. Opium presently became so widespread that by 1838, officials in Guangdong and Fujian were notifying the Imperial government that nine people out of ten in these provinces were addicts.

By 1940's, there were literally millions of addicts in the country. The new government immediately set about coping with the monumental problem. Peasants were persuaded to plough in their opium crops and sow wheat or rice instead. Neighbourhoods were mobilised in a massive educational programme. The street committees which governed the neighbourhoods held study groups in which the evils of opium and heroin were discussed. Families of known addicts were educated not to blame their addict members, but to encourage them to seek help. Addicts themselves were impressed by the fact that they were not blamed for their addiction, since they were considered victims of foreign governments and other enemies of the people. After their cure, they were given training and then placed in paying jobs. Many of them were hired by the government to work with other addicts.

At the same time, pressure was placed on the dealers. Those who surrendered were accepted by the community, re-educated, trained for meaningful work and given jobs. The rest were packed off to prison, and the worst offenders were executed. By 1956, the People's Republic of China had virtually eliminated its drug problem.

Can these measures be carried out to help todays present day problem in the USA?

Yea and no.

We know where the main source (Afgnanistan) of the drug that's causing so much addiction and deaths in the USA, the problem is the USA goverment controls its production.

<img src="http://www.globalresearch.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/US-troops-opium-field-Afghanistan-300x179.jpg" alt="Mountain View" style="width:404px;height:328px;">

The Taliban had imposed a successful ban on poppy cultivation in 2000. Opium production declined by more than 90 per cent in 2001. In fact the surge in opium cultivation production coincided with the onslaught of the US-led military operation and the downfall of the Taliban regime. From October through December 2001, farmers started to replant poppy on an extensive basis.

Washington’s Hidden Agenda: Restore the Drug Trade

In the wake of the 2001 US bombing of Afghanistan, the British government of Tony Blair was entrusted by the G-8 Group of leading industrial nations to carry out a drug eradication program, which would, in theory, allow Afghan farmers to switch out of poppy cultivation into alternative crops. The British were working out of Kabul in close liaison with the US DEA’s “Operation Containment”.

The UK sponsored crop eradication program is an obvious smokescreen. Since October 2001, opium poppy cultivation has skyrocketed. The presence of occupation forces in Afghanistan did not result in the eradication of poppy cultivation. Quite the opposite.

Compare this increased production from 2001 with increased deaths from overdose since 2001 and we get a pretty similar curve.

Opiods are a multibillion dollar business supported by powerful interests, which requires a steady and secure commodity flow. One of the “hidden” objectives of the war was precisely to restore the CIA sponsored drug trade to its historical levels and exert direct control over the drug routes.

Maybe Trump could threaten these powerful interest groups and doctors who deal opiods with incarceration and execution if they continue to peddle the narcotic.

Boszi, just to get us back onto Trump for a minute. I just found out that as President he has the sole power to press the nuclear button. Apparently he doesn't have to consult anyone, he has complete control.

And as per the norm here our media has been giving us an incomplete picture of what's going on. It appears that in the main most of this crap coming out of Korea is incomplete. It looks as though most of this is what they intend to do if attacked. What a load of shite.

Hope the Americans are able to shift him before he does real damage.

Tends tp put opioids in the shade a bit.

Orf, never a truer word said it is all 'shite' and again you are correct when you state 'media has been giving us an incomplete picture of what's going on.'

But don't worry about Trump pressing any buttons because , nukes are most certainly a hoax.

Some may well will find this hard to grasp, but you got to ask yourself why when USA suffers cost of health care use and disability claims involving the 2.6 million U.S. service members who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan .

Why not save US lives and simply nuke these and others countries USA has been at war with since WW2

Simple answer is nukes don't work and never have done.

Is Trump threatening big Pharma with latest tweet...

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

Now that Ken Frazier of Merck Pharma has resigned from President's Manufacturing Council,he will have more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!

And what a ripoff it is...

Marathon Pharmaceuticals planned to charge $89,000 per year for its Emflaza brand of the corticosteroid deflazacort. Deflazacort was introduced in 1969 and is available outside the U.S. for less than $2 per tablet. US patients with muscular dystrophy have been obtaining the drug for around $1,500 per year from foreign sources.

Here's how they carry out the scam...

Monopoly privilege

Monopoly privilege enables pricing that extracts the last bit of disposable income from customers, but monopoly cannot, by itself, extract more from a customer than the customer can pay. The final policy element necessary for the outrageous price of $89,000 for a one year supply of Emflaza is public financing. By public financing I mean that the cost of the drug is not paid by the person receiving the benefit of the drug but by the public. Medicare and Medicaid are examples of public financing. Without public financing very few people could afford $89,000 per year, so Marathon Pharmaceuticals would charge less in order to maximize profit. With public financing, pharmaceutical companies stop making pricing decisions based on the economics of affordability and pursue rent seeking behaviors such as obtaining favorable pricing decisions by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).

The FDA awarded monopoly privilege to Marathon Pharmaceuticals for acquiring old clinical trial data and performing some additional analyses.

Angus Deaton, Nobel Laureate in Economics, said, “My guess is that the FDA is acting pretty much in the interests of the pharmaceutical companies,” rather than serving the public interest.

Ha ha, according to the Sun...

TWO radio stations on the Pacific island of Guam are in hot water after accidentally broadcasting a missile warning klaxon – sparking fears of a North Korean nuke attack.

The civil danger warning message was mistakenly broadcast because of “human error” just after midnight today by both the KTWG and KSTO radio stations.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4245530/guam-north-korea-nuclear-missile-warning-radio-kim-jong-un/

The island last week issued residents with a chilling ‘what to do in case of nuclear attack’ leaflet amid fears of an imminent strike from North Korea.

The Pacific islanders were put on red alert after the local government issued the emergency fact sheet with the message “don’t look at the fireball.”

Titled “In Case of Emergency… Preparing for an Imminent Missile Threat”, it says: “Do not look at the flash or fireball – It can blind you.”

It goes on “Take cover behind anything that might offer protection”.

The island’s 160,000 residents were put in the cross-hairs after it was revealed North Korea is now armed with nuclear warheads able to be fixed to its intercontinental missiles.

The flier also offers guidance on removing radioactive material: “When possible, take a shower with lots of soap and water to help remove radioactive contamination.”

But don’t scratch or scrub skin and “do not use conditioner in your hair because it will bind radioactive material to your hair.”

No wonder they having a laugh...

‘The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue.’

‘this symposium—on the reproducibility and reliability of biomedical research, held at the Wellcome Trust in London last week—touched on one of the most sensitive issues in science today: the idea that something has gone fundamentally wrong with one of our greatest human creations.’

Ha ha, for a moment I thought itto had posted a snap of ISS from his camara but alas folks it's from a NASA (con) artist

You still have not told me why you would accept my photos over anyone else's, you complete lunatic. Am I that much more trustworthy? And you still have not posted your own picture of a bacterium or an Arctic fox, ergo they do not exist.

It's a shame you can't enjoy these images for what they are. You're really missing out. There were some great shots of the eclipse from the astronauts on the iss too.

I saw one of the Swedish cameras that has been to the moon the other week. Wonderful stuff. I also chatted with a friend / colleague who built a camera that will smash into Saturn next month. End of 20 odd year's work for him. Quite emotional.

BTW, I didn't catch polio or small pox today, so that's a bonus.

Hello boszi, I usually click on here mainly to see how you and itto are getting along and thinking that I might learn something. Never too old but you might have me hooked on the music on that video and in addition as I watched the video (and enjoyed it) it did remind me of when I was a schoolboy during Worldwar 2.
Early one morning I was on the local park in Netherfield when a large group of planes came over, 87 in total and flying very low. Low enough to see that every one had some sort of damage and obviously returning from a raid over Germany. This was in the early days of the war, a real mixture as well, some with 2 engines, some 4, there seemed to be quite a variety. It has been something that I've never forgotten.

Good story, ORF. Let's hope we never see those dark days in Netherfield again. Shocking that Nazi's are on the rise again so soon. :-(

And hello itto, good to hear from you again. It's not Nazis that bother me these days, it's those futile folk from the Middle East who appear to have a brain which fails to work. And to a large extent so young.
We do have the same problem over here to a minor extent so far and the latest culprit was aged 15 and succeeded in killing a local police employee who he'd never even met. Can you possibly understand the mentality? I can't.
As regards the USA I've just about given up. They have an awful long way to go, won't happen in my lifetime, and possibly not yours either.

Nice infographic about the efficacy of vaccines. There is no scientific debate that vaccines save lives. There is no scientific debate about them causing autism - they dont. Vaccinate your kids, people, for their own good and the good of humanity.

http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/04/here-s-visual-proof-why-vaccines-do-more-good-harm?utm_content=bufferfc926&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

i dont think we can say they dont. it seems clear itis possible but difficult to prove and also a minority that suffer in relation to helped. Its quite normal to have side effects, even i was reading the other day about nicotene patches kill one in 1000, 000 folk, that diesel fumes are killing 100,000 folk a year just in UK, so death and major health issues are actually everywhereif you lookclosely and i dont see why someofthese antibiotics are any different :) Its only when we get something contagious we seem to take any notice.

Vaccination is serious stuff over here and gathering pace. It's like the Flu virus which has been more serious than normal this year in Oz resulting in many hospital admissions and complications. This is available freely to the over 65s and I think generally but not quite sure about this. My wife years ago insisted that I join the mob which I did at the time mainly to avoid further adverse discussions. One of the best moves I've made, she was right for once.
But it's moved much further since then, to the point that Child Kindergartens will not accept preschool kids unless they have received the relevant vaccinations. I'm not sure what form this takes but having 6 great grand kids I tend not to listen to the complete detail.
I get the impression that we're beginning to get real figures confirming the values of vaccination.
