Trump Balloon N/G

Khan can't win on this one. If he banned it he would be accused of censoring free speech ( and VG wouldn't like that, would he?), allow it and he is slated for insulting a guest of the country.

My personal view is (even though I'm a meusli munching leftie) it is a bit embarassing. Much though I loathe the man, Trump is here as President of the USA.

Over 10k has already be raised for a baby Sadick balloon. what chance of Khan allowing that to fly.

Madeleine Albright called trump a facist; I remember a Charlie Chaplin film, which was a parody of Hitler playing with a balloon representing the world. It's a balloon not a vessel containing poisonous chemicals. Can't think how or why Khan has overstepped the mark by allowing a colourful protest.

Ok. Hands up who voted for Trump. That's right. Nobody in the UK. I'm sure that the antics of some attention seeking city dwelling half wits will have no impact on Trump whatsoever.

Stupid ploy and embarrassing too. Whatever people think of Trump there are more grown up ways of communication. The Mayor has set a silly precedent.

The mayor hasn't set a precedent. As I said, he can't win. If it's against the law the police can stop it. If not, it is exercising freedom of expression. I personally think it's an embarrassing form of protest. I suspect that many who blame Khan just don't like him politically.

I would like Trump to be politely ignored. Surely even he couldn't fake news a crowd of zero to be massive support.

Perhaps the Queen could be busy doing her hair that day :)

I'm in agreement with you Gills58
Just ignore him with absolutely minimal press coverage.

" Donald trump visited the Queen today"
In other news …………….

I would have thought that Roger waters would have been very keen on The Wall.
After all he made enough money out of it.
To be honest, I wasn't even aware that he was now an American citizen.

Like the film, "tear down the wall". He's been an American citizen since 1994...

I understood Trump's intention was to spend the majority of his time over here at a golf course in Scotland watching the Scottish Open.

I'm not hostile to everything Trump is trying to do, but the man is a horse's behind who has crossed multiple lines of civility and is in no position to cry foul. Only question is a political one. Is more gained or lost by this sort of thing. On balance, I would not do it.

Agree with gills58. Also agree that Khan is just allowing peaceful freedom of protest.

Double standards where people hate trump but protest less against saudi, turkey, farage! Etc lol.

From what i`ve seen of it, the balloon wouldn`t appear to have anything unlawful on it. But the police will have far more pressing matters to deal with anyway; like defending themselves, and others, from those who will inevitably gate-crash the "event" and cause mayhem. As a council tax payer, I`m wondering how many millions of pounds the "demos" will cost everyone in the UK. There will be plenty of police from Kent drafted in to London and elsewhere. Many of them will be on 16 hour shifts and whilst there will be some central funding, most of the expense involved will fall to county councils up and down the country. Peaceful protest is fine. But, ironically, Trump probably won`t be anywhere near the wretched inflatable or the vast majority of protestors. I`m not a Trump fan but Khan has gotten himself into a twitter war with this American and the ridiculous balloon and unsubtle calling of people onto the streets for the visit of POTUS is silly.
