Travellers pitch up on school playing field in Crawley

Vital Football Legend
A school went into "lockdown" when travellers with up to 30 caravans moved onto its playing field while pupils were in their lessons. They parked up at Hazelwick School in Crawley, West Sussex, after a padlock securing the grounds was cut open. GCSE exams had to be moved, pupils were kept in their classrooms during breaks, and they had to travel in groups to go to the toilet.

Nice to see standards are alive for some. Didn't know it was a school, no you wouldn't have gone would you.

The same sort of thing happened in the grounds of one of our Churches in Kent last year. It took more than a day to get them out though.

More than a day BBJ?..... that was good. More times than not, it takes councils etc weeks or a couple of months to move on the great unwashed.

If councils provided areas for these people, we wouldn't have this problem. But then again, if they decided to become 'normal' and become stationery, the councils wouldn't be required to provide such amenities.

I think they have pitched up at a school in Northfield as well , also they have set up camp in leafy Solihull .

Amazes me that they can just set up camp anywhere yet it takes a court order to remove them.

My use of English was ambiguous. It took several weeks, Pride.
In Ireland, as a result of a case taken to the Supreme Court, the local authorities are obliged to provide what are called "halting sites" for travellers. Everyone thinks it's a great idea so long as these sites are somewhere else. There is one about half a mile from where we live.

I see the 'traveller' is quoted as saying they didn't realise it was a school.
Ok, if you say so.
They wonder why they get a bad reputation. Maybe they don't give a damn come to think of it.

Meanwhile, the local council ergo the local tax payer foot the bill for any damage, the procedural matters needed to remove them and the poor person who's house has been burgled awaits a police response that isn't coming because the officers are having to deal with this.

I blame Trump.

If they didn't realise it was a school they could have done the decent thing once they were told then. Disrupting the kids exams is out of order. Also. It seems they had to break in. If I do that I'm arrested.

Idiots like this certainly don't do the decent travellers any favours do they. I'm sure are some who actually take care of where they pitch up.

Years ago travellers used horse draw wagons and would work at farms and villages.
I only learned recently that the places they stopped at were regular, same spot season after season. The reason for this was they would plant out herbs for cooking and medicinal plants along their routes for collection the following season. Winter was usually by forested land which supplied fire wood and shelter during the winter months.

These other ***** fuckers aint travellers in the true sense., they could have given the kids lessons in tax avoidance, saving money and living without education.

When I was a brewery area manager I had problems with travellers pitching up on pub car parks or grounds belonging to the pub. Did I bother with a court order to remove them.....nah. I employed my own team of blokes who usually got rid of them within the hour. Much cheaper than the court action and then having to pay for all the rubbish they left behind to be removed.
