The season is over and I guess that we must vote it a success. Most goals scored, fewest goals conceded, unbeaten at the Lane throughout the season and in most seasons, our points would have been enough to win us the title. Three players scored 20+ goals and Harry won the golden boot again. Unfortunately, no silverware. The Lane is gone forever, (sob sob), and we have the dubious honour of playing our home games at Wembley next season.

According to "the media", we are set to lose Kyle Walker because, he's had an argument with the boss - he wants more money or his Mrs wants to move back north, (whichever you believe). Danny Rose is also looking for a return to the north…so we might be losing our starting full/wing backs. Kyle seems to have been usurped by Kieren Trippier, and Ben Davies has been covering Danny with increasing aplomb as the season drew on. Do we need more cover should these! Departures actually happen? Also, Toby Alderwierld is angling for more money or he's off, (media again), and Kevin Wimmer is off unless he gets more playing time because it is affecting his international playing chances. Two new centre backs? Oh, and Eric Dier is off to ManU because he'd rather play in midfield than defence, (didn't we buy him as a central defender?)

On the plus side, we should have Moussa Dembele, Erik Lamella and Harry Winks back next season after surgery. So, who should be brought in with the money from Kyle, Danny, Eric and Kevin? Do we need to "buy big" (like Sissoko) or promote from the junior ranks?

Over to you guys for your considered opinions.

We will not lose anything defensively, selling Dier & Wimmer for 40m+. If we can get McGuire we’ll gain a defender with better positional awareness. While Lamela returning after surgery, is nothing to write home about. Acquiring Lemar & Under will bring improvement to our squad and offset the number of our un-influential AM’s. Hopefully we can off load him with Sissoko.

I'd be quite annoyed if Dier left. Almost as annoyed as I was when Son lined up at LB.

CL and PL require depth. Not replacement.

Dier had a very average first half of the season but he was a big player for us in the second half of the season. I'd hate to see him leave. You only have to watch him to see how he is becoming a leader on the pitch - constantly barking instructions and making sure people are sticking to their roles.

If we lose either Walker or Rose we would need to bring in replacements.

Trippier is very good going forward but is still not quite there defensively against the better players, I don't think he has the experience for that yet, so I would hope we would bring in a better defensive RB/RWB. KWP has potential but is he ready? I can't see how he is.

If Rose were to be sold then we would without a doubt need a new LWB. Davies is not a LWB, he is a LB. Good luck finding better than Rose. Bertrand from the saints is as good as we could get, Shaw from United but very injury prone, after that there ain't one in the prem.

We would be stupid to sell Dier. For his age he is too good at DM to sell.

Dier is too sloppy and some way behind Wanyama and Dembele as a DM. He'll also face heavy competition from Winks who is a better footballer.

Dier's versatility is good, however, he is a jack of all trades and a master of none. I prefer him in the CB role i find him slow and cumbersome when he plays DM.

Dier was sloppy first half of the season I admit. But second half of last season, and the season before he has been immense. Especially as he has been constantly moved position.

Winks is a tidy player, but Dier has bags of ability as well. When he plays DM he drops balls into he box from deep that are Hoddle-esque at times. He just needs a run of games in DM again, we need the squad depth for proper rotation this year as Dembele is not gonna play every game.

Personally I think Dier has the potential to make DM his own and oust Wana (who was amazing last year) but he offers more in the pivot role than Wanyama does.

Like I said next year will be a year we rely on our full squad, just hope we sign another CB or give Wimmer/CCV a chance for Dier to move back to his best position.

Wanyama is superior in possession, better skills, ball retention, strength, and reading of the game. Dier may have the wider passing range, but Wanyama's other strengths outweigh that. Difficult to see him ousting Wanayama anytime soon and his sloppy moments were highlighted towards the end of the season as well.

True about Wanyama, but being settled in one position helps to create confidence and stability in a player.

I think with a run of games, like the season before last, Dier has the potential to be a more influential player.

It is only potential at the minute though, Wanyama deserves his place as he was outstanding. Up to Dier to make that step up and win the place back.

Dier would have to improve those elements that Victor excels at to influence a game. Wanyama, imposes his game on the opposition like no other. One of the first names on the team sheet for me.

Agree with RichmondSpur in his analysis of Wanyama. Dier benefits from playing with Dem/ Wan or even CE. To me Dier is a wing man in the Dm role when put under pressure he passes the ball back all the time. Vs the spammers he tried to bring the ball forward and looked poor. Generally he looks good against the watfords, hull and burnley type opposition. When he plays for England he looks pants because he has no Dem / Wan to bale him out.

Winks and Dembele are not DMs

I dispute the strengths of Wanyama against Dier . Only strength is he obviously superior. His touch ain't great which leads to ball loss or tackles back when he gets caught, invariably a yellow. I don't think he reads the game better particularly. Dier has very good skills but doesn't get the chance to show them very often in his position it's keep it simple and safe. He steps up for free kicks which shows technique. Not seen Victor take any. I like Victor but ain't having it he is superior.

Completely agree. He's 23 with only two full seasons under his belt. If Victor is out inured, I wouldn't lose any sleep with Dier filling in.
