Transfer Dealings for Gills in January ?

So, what do we think, will we do much this January ? JED has certainly made noises that we will but what do we think will happen.

I can see Donnelly trying to get a loan as he needs to prove himself somewhere to earn a deal for next season. It seems likely that his opportunities will be limited here. Its a bit of a shame as he clearly has a talent although not the consistency. However I can't see us letting him go unless a striker comes in.

Will JET stay ? To be honest I am no too fussed and it all depends on how much he is costing us in wages. Probably the most talented player in the squad but equally the most frustrating. If he stays he could be our top scorer but if his return to QPR allows us to bring in a target man striker then that might be for the best.

Dack - stays.

I can't see any of our players being in demand so loans in seems most likely.

What do you think ?

Presumably you mean a right back Trev? On the basis that Wagstaff is wasted deputising for Jackson when he's injured or suspended? If so, then I totally agree.

I would hope for some more protection for our defence. If Herd can stay fit then maybe he can play alongside Hess or Wright and make it harder for us to concede.

Agree we need at least one striker and a hold up target man would be ideal to give some variation. In addition and as an alternative I would like to see a fast tricky striker who can beat a man and maybe play Cody in more than our current squad seem capable of doing as well getting 8 to 10 goals himself before the end of the season.

I do realise that we will be lucky to get 1 striker but i'm just putting it out there as a New Year's wish

If we're wish listing, it'd be nice to see someone versatile who can play right or centre like Darryl Janmaat come into the backfield on loan so there's another possible first team defender in case Konch gets injured or banned again. I know this won't happen, but I can make a new years wish as well.

Who says it's all gone? Money has come in for Egan and O'Hara released! Yes we have a few loans but some of those may be ending in January

I would suggest that Egan's and O'Hara's wages could well have been already spent.Egan left before the start of the season.So that would have freed up wages.O'Hara's wages went on Herd who is under a contract for at least the rest of the season.Nouble has been offered a extended contract that expires very shortly.So it could be weather Scally allows any spending of the Egan transfer fee.Given the fact that it is more and more unlikely that we will be promoted or relegated this season.I can see Scally sticking unless players are leaving and leaving any boost in spending till next season.

From JED and Scally's recent comments I expect one or 2 will leave on loan/permanent and one or two will come in. Plus some on the loans may be extended (Cargill?).
Will Pask go back in January or is he here for the season?

Jed sounds hopeful of bringing in additions. For me Pask and one of more of the kids out on loan. If Donnelly is to stay then M'bo.
 
Talking of M'bo it should be interesting to see how many youngsters get a real chance between now and the end of the season.Does anyone know if you can still loan a youngster like M'bo out then recall him say mid march if we are safe but can't go up?
 
How much are we paying JET each week? This maybe an unpopular opinion but IF his wages could be used on a decent hold up/target man striker we might be better off ending the deal. Hugely talented player but being stuck on the wing is pointless and doesnt dominate games enough for me.

I get the fact that we are a small club who has a budget but Durham only ever seems to regard debts and outgoings as relevant ignoring money coming in the other way such as the 400+k coming in for Egan with no similar outgoings - in fact we've had a few unbudgeted windfalls - three matches on tv and a large cut of a 30000+ crowd at Tottenham at 20 quid a head.

It seems durham's budgeting is only ever an excuse as to why we won't and can't spend money and should never expect to do so.

Scally reckons we run a budget deficit of 500k a season, any sales up to that level would merely see us break even.
 
I believe that season ticket holders at Spurs got in for free so I am not sure the 30,000 at 20 a head is in fact correct.But I believe that Scally would have had in more than he budgeted for in the first half of the season.But that doesn't mean he will allow JED to spend it.Given our position I can see him saying to JED he has to stick with existing budgetary spending. Any extras going to fund a promotion push next season.January prices on players are always inflated as there are very few good available players at each level.

He earns 8k a week at QPR and we are paying half of that.

Personally, I think we would be bottom four material without him
 
I stand open to correction but I believe the JET situation is in our hands. QPR can only take him back with our agreement though they could sell him to a third party. I could imagine Holloway wanting him but it's hard to see us wanting, or being able to pay any of those Holloway is looking to get away from his training ground. Odds on him staying.

I am of the opinion that fans tend to be fairly one eyed and view the window strictly from their own perspective. I also believe that contacts, enquiries and tentative bids are a constant and much of it goes unreported. Take Dack as a case in point. We think he's bound to stay because his form faded and is only beginning to return and because we don't think anyone would pay his worth. I think there will certainly be enquiries and we may have had some already. He's at an pivotal point contract wise and if we don't sell by the summer then he will go for free. Factor that lot in together with his undoubted ability and there is room for a deal. I'm not saying he'll go but I can see how he easily might.

JED has already indicated that youngsters will go out on loan but Donnelly is a different matter. Brutally speaking we have one available striker in Cody, that's it. The rest are advanced midfield types and Cody is not a striker, who has ever played the loan striker role effectively. The only way Donnelly would be allowed to leave would be if we got someone else in, or it should be. Heaven knows why we sold Norris without getting a replacement. A good, basic hold up player or someone with real pace and aggression would be my wish list. That would guarantee survival, give a pattern and shape and a whole lot more entertainment.

We have no guarantee that Cargill will stay. If he doesn't his replacemnet becomes the priority. There is far more that is out of our hands than some comment indicates.
