Toys you loved as a kid

The choppers second gear was always a slip gear. My kids love/loved going out on their bikes. I think I've still got my old cycling proficiency badge somewhere

I was one of only three people in my entire year to pass it, everyone was just mucking about and all over the shop!. not that you have to of course. Seeing some of the cyclists on the road I think you should have to!
I was chatting to a kid last week who is doing his at the moment at school. He told me that once you get to stage three (it was a couple of afternoons when I did it?) you can go on the motorway!!! I told him I didn't think that was true, but he was adamant. So I let it go.
If you see an eight year old kid tootling along the hard shoulder of the M42 - I did try to tell him!
 
Absolutely luv'd reading what toys you lot played with the most, i also luv'd them lego He Man Ker Plunk game ZX Spectrum, oh and don't forget them marbles that was serious gambling back then playing to keep you acer or fobber lol,

 
Do you know the funny thing, the box i got down from the attic this afternoon had my cycling proficency badge in it lol, same as the above and that was in the late 80's so dunno how old that badge is above but seems like they didn't change much
 
I had a blue Raleigh Chopper with the round gear stick. It was on "easy terms" from the Co-op. I was extremely fortunate to have one.
I had a robot that walked and it's chest opened to shoot machine guns,
Escalado which is a horse racing game you attach to a table ,turn a handle and the horses move up the track.
Had a battery powered thunderbird. 4 which had a propeller to use in water
 
Top trumps was pretty big business down my end. Cars football teams/players, superheroes, ships???

We did though spend a lot of time playing ackee (sp?) building dens, tracking or football of course. In the street with the pitch the streets width, and the goals the streets width! So no real toys needed other than a ball, and most of the time that was a knackered old casa with the rubber bulging out of a split, and most of the leather strips or hexagons missing.
 
My dad died in 1994 when I was 25. He said to my Mum just before he went "I reckon I'm still paying for the boys bikes on the credit card!"

Used to luv hunting around the estate looking to build dens, old bits of carpet we would find that folk had slung for the floor lol, and the water bomb fights in the summer and old washing up liquid bottles to squirt the enemy man i miss them days
 
Spent all the time either playing cricket or football at Marcliffe Crescent just up the road from us, My mom used to come and call me in when it was too dark. The have planted bushes on the grass there now to stop the kids playing there which seems petty.

Other than that I remember liking to do Airfix models , top trumps , a board game called Wembley and Daley Thompsons Decathlon on the old Spectrum
 
David had a toy bowling machine that launched hollow balls and he would bat in the living room. I think he was about 7.
 
Was that called test match cricket mark? I seem to remember my mate having it.
 
I don't recall the bowling machine name but we also had the one where you used a ball bearing rolled down a ramp but it was a table game.
 
Ah yeah that's the one I mean. My mate was cricket mad, I was much more football. But he had a roll out non creasing AstroTurf subbuteo pitch and I had to compromise and play the cricket game in order to play subbuteo with him.
 
Ah yes I remember test match . You operated the batter with a piece of string attached to a bat that looked like a Hoover.
 
Well I don't think you will be interested in some of my girl toys as a little girl. I had the usual pram and dolls/house as a little girl. I always had a lot of games too, like mousetrap, cluedo, etch a sketch, monopoly and so on. I also loved to read, and had a massive book library.
I also got alot of football stuff as I got older, shirts and stuff like that. I was a pretty eclectic kids too :17:
 
We used to make wooden go-kart's with pram wheels and string as a handle to try and steer it.

The best run was down the hill in Aston Park facing Trinity Rd and the Villa ground. We used to get up to a good speed and then crash into the hedges at the bottom :19:
 
My action man with grippy hands.
My football.Slam,Wembley.Penalties or just one on one.In any weather down Perry Hall Park.
and my collection of plastic german and british soldiers who were involved in thousands of world wars in hundreds of different places and there was only ever one winner.
 
Mr Frosty LOL i remember that one bloody hell, i had loads of toys passed down to me as i was the only child from me uncles and elder couisens them plastic toy soldiers the green and grey ones and the little plastic bunkers and tanks lol man i luv'd them,

My dad always tells me how the old days was the best with making there own go karts from scrap lol i rmemeber them grifter bikes and choppers never had one but man i always wanted them as Raleigh activators came out ''with suspension'' lol so i got one of them instead but i luv'd that big chunky grifter bike frame and the chopper bike was just like a real motorbike man ;)
