Tottenham in the transfer market: When will Spurs make their move?

Premier League clubs are spending freely this summer in a bid to muscle in on the top four next season.

Manchester United have paid an initial £75m for striker Romelu Lukaku,Arsenal have broken their transfer record to sign France forward Alexandre Lacazette, and Everton have invested £90m. And that's before we even look at last season's top four.

Champions Chelsea have already spent nearly £70m on two signings and are set to almost double that outlay by signing Spain striker Alvaro Morata. Manchester City have surpassed that figure, and Liverpool are willing to pay a club record fee to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita.

But what about Tottenham Hotspur?

We don't need to spend because until we will have new owners, we aren't competing for the EPL title or a European trophy, as should be the case for a club like Spurs.

We have to wait for new ambitious with winning silverware owners who will strengthen effectively the squad every season and make it able to compete seriously for titles and trophies.

A big club like Spurs is unable to win an EPL title for decades now.
Also Levy and Co have condemned the club for almost another two decades to try to achieve only a good position in the table and avoid relegation.
They have never officially announced that the club is targeting a bigger price than that!
That's where their ambition with Spurs ends!

Even in the season when we were chasing a club like Leicester, they have refused to strengthen the squad effectively in the January window and increase seriously the chances to win unexpectedly an EPL title!
In their plans for Spurs there is no such ambition!

The question arising is why such persons buy a big and popular club like Spurs if they don't aim to win in the shortest possible time titles and trophies?
Why they have condemned for such a long time Spurs not to be able to win regularly silverware?

Someone has only to consider how much of their own money have invested in the club, how many titles and trophies has the club won during their ownership and how much money they will get when they will sell the club!

Whilst we all want to see the squad added to and new players coming in, while we're all afraid that we will slip down the league a bit, Pochettino will set us up with what he has and I don't think we will do badly at all. Ok other teams are buying in players and we are being touted as going to buy in some but even if we don't, we all realise that the new stadium costs are in the equation and anything we can make financially will considerably help with that. But I do see us buying one or two players and we won't buy in the Soldados and Janssens this time I don't think. I think in this economic situation we will be more careful and make the Walker cash count and buy more carefully, probably promising youngsters for Pochettino to work his wonders with.

We have a year to wait until the new stadium opens and that will mean we will all have to be patient and what really matters is that we don't slip in our performances and drop down the league. Holding a second place wouldn't be bad but I would guess that we could do better than last year, judging by Pochettinos standards. Europe? Mmmmmm, frankly I don't know what will happen there, I think we'll do better in the CL but there's the Wembley factor and to be honest I don't feel it will be a problem, I see us doing better all round.

I think tiredness will factor a bit and that may result in a bit of mediocre later in the season at times but I DO believe we will do better in all camps, maybe winning a cup or so.

Whatever happens, steady progress is good, even with the odd hiccup but let's not lose heart, we're in good shape and it's going to get better even if it's by a small amount.

The article is confusing spending big and spending early.

Yet another positive post, con grats.

Unfortunately he has based his opinion on facts.

Not really, all he says (yet again) is that we have a billionaire majority owner that wouldn't leave his business principles behind and spend without limit to buy cups no matter what, so the only thing he is right about it that we haven't got an Abramovitch...

Who also happens to be a crook and was long suspected of far far worse.

We've seen billionaires come and go, and the ones that have gone have all left their clubs in the mire.

It's now happening to Sunderland right before our very eyes.

So all he ever whines on about is 'why have we got a billionaire with more sense than money' - and granted it is a rare combination in football.

There are plenty of billionaires who own sports teams as hobbies and to assuage their egos. And more and more of them are appearing.

He says we won't compete for the EPL until we get rich owners or words to that effect. What have we been doing the last 2 seasons then. ?

This really gets my goat, this belief that wealthy owners should throw their money at the club in pursuit of glory. They try to con us into believing that any owners that are not prepared to throw their wealth at the club lack ambition, only 3 owners have ever done that successfully. Blackburn, Chelsea and M. City. And that latter 2 spent billions.
These same whingers were crowing when we first qualified for the CL, that we didn't buy it and that we did it the right way. That we achieve what we have over the last two season should be applauded, people are very liberal with other peoples money I bet they are not with their own.

Well..........I think most of us whingers just wanted two or three extra players to give us some depth.....before the academy started having an impact.

And maybe, just maybe, they will be proven to be right if the wheels come off this year.

A little respect for other people's opinions is in order.

I don't agree with buying silverware . I just want to move forward. We may still do that but the signs ain't encouraging yet.

So now if someone passionately disagree with others point of view it is deemed as a lack of respect, it is starting to look to me that only posters with a certain view are allowed to express them. So be it.

I agree with you. There isn't a right or wrong.

There is a massive difference between a billionaire" throwing their money at the club" and what the majority of people are asking for

When Harry was pushing for the top 4 and potentially the title/Two seasons ago when Leicester won the title/last summer/haggling over a couple of million on players we miss out on.

No one is suggesting 200 million in one summer

I've long said here - in fact I think I was the first to use the phase, levy is penny wise and pound foolish - but he has had to work within his means i.e. the capital available, he in himself whilst now a richer man than he was, isn't even close to being a Billionaire - to this extent you can and should look at Joe Lewis as a passive investor, not an active one.

There have unquestionably been times (and I was Harry's biggest supporter here) where I thought if we could only get two or three new faces it would have made a World of difference, but there was also the other side of Harry where for along time it looked like all he wanted to do was get the aging band back together again....

Like it or not, we support a club where the controlling interest(s) won't spend money like water and won't ever put us at risk of being one of the clubs (like Sunderland is now) that spent big and now can't decrease their payroll fast enough and are in serious decline - as so many other clubs have done before them....

We stand on our own two feet or we don't stand at all, that's the mantra from the management and has been pretty much since shortly after they took over.

This is the same debate that we have been having for at least 10 years. The bottom line here is whether we can remain a top four club in the coming season without adding quality players to our squad given the challenges of the Wembley pitch ( noted for being energy-sapping), the crowded schedule, particularly if we wish to be competitive in the CL and other cup competitions and the newly reinforced, big spending usual top 4 teams plus Liverpool. Time will tell. Even if we manage it, the salary issue will tear it's ugly head again at the end of the season. As was pointed out in other articles, bringing players in at one level, improving them to the highest level and then failing to retain them due to financial constraints, is the model of all but the biggest ( in terms of finances) clubs. While many may question where the money goes in our budgets, it's pretty clear from an objective viewpoint that much has been invested in building the infrastructure of the club to make the transition to the next level. Of course it may well pay huge dividends for the owners in due course if they choose to sell the club, and it may well not benefit the football team as it is difficult to see how with price being touted as around £2 billion pounds how we would not be plunged into huge debt. However, IMO, if the owners do not solve the salary problems soon there may be little to attract new owners if the team loses its current competitive position.

I would have been happy with Maguire, Under and Pereira. Hardly players that will put is into debt. lol 50m for 3 players that would have made a real difference.

So many decent players around for reasonable prices, even in the crazy market of today.

I don't think anyone expects Levy to put money in, I think most frustration is aimed at Lewis.

That's all fine - but we then spunk more money on the duds - I know Sissoko is an easy target - but 30 million? Why not invest a couple more and get a player that would have made a difference - even if it meant not getting George.

This current squad won't win the league.

It's just very very frustrating as we are so so close to winning something and we have a small window to do it unless we increase the pay....

Spot on - would have been covered by Walker alone and Levy/Lewis get the beloved negative net spend.

The belief that people who want us to spend 200k on wages and 100 million on a player is false.
