Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester City FC

There were at least some positives for me. Sissoko had his best game that I have seen him have in a Spurs shirt. Winks is a class act IMO, Hope he can stay fit and Lamela is starting to produce on a regular basis.

I think the performance was better than some are making out. Yes they are better than us however I think we worried them when we went forwards. Yes the stats do show limited shots on target but overall we performed better than most had us down for.

If Poch goes could you blame him ? 29 mil net spend in 4.5 years.

That sum is absolutely ludicrous for a PL club to have spent and I don't give a toss how much the stadium is costing, this is a football club and the owners have NEVER treated it as such and put the football first.

If the supporters were given the choice of a new stadium or a lifetime of guaranteed austerity and no trophies what do you think we would have chosen ?

As you say, no wonder Poch seems fed up with it all.

He spent 230 million, and it could have been more if he hadn't chosen to not buy last window.
We are the 6th biggest spenders in the 3 years prior to this summer window, which is in line with our financial power.

Poch failed in the market so bad he lost the plot and decided not to spend.

Poch was lucky to get the players he did. The squad he inherited 4 and half years ago still makes today's spine: Hugo, Jan, Rose, Ali (purchased before he came), Dier (scouted and brought by others), Dembo, Eriksen. With Kane coming through the ranks, the only 2 players to crack our 11 and considered a success are Toby & Victor.

That's two first 11 quality additions in 4.5 years. Now go blame Levy.

Everyone who is honest about us can see the gradual decline. No more miserly and sure defence of 3 seasons ago. No more terrier like midfielder. BTW where is Wanya??? No more organized and energetic pressing. Its just an embarassing losely timed disorganized press and good teams just pass thru us with a few neat moves. No...omg...clinical Kane. He still scores now and then but he has become unrecognisable. The increasingly lack of energy is shocking considering the average age of the team. So many out of sorts players at various part of season. So far this season, at least half the team is out of sorts. We r lucky that Moura carried us for first 4 games and Lamela did likewise for next 5. Poch, u hv to up this. U can see from the play that it is not right.

One of Son or Lucas would be in our first XI and he signed both of them.

Agree he/transfer committee have got more right than wrong though. Even some of the ones we went after like Berahino have shown they would have been poor choices, and Batshuayi jury is still out on.

I think Poch is a fantastic manager and very good at developing young players, but I wish he had a few more top Argentine talents he could bring in. We can't afford to be as scattergun with our signings as some of our rivals.

Perhaps he needs to wear an England shirt for his next game and hope no one realises!

That isn't the issue. For England he plays as an actual wing back with a back 3 behind him. He is allowed to play to his strength's. Getting forward, crossing the ball and passing the ball. Defending is not his strongest point, never has been.

Here, Poch continues to play him as a wing back in a back 4. He is expected to bomb up and down the pitch all game and is expected to defend as good as a natural RB.

Why do you think Davies struggles so much? Like Tripps he isn't a natural wing back. He isn't a natural athlete.

The only two full backs in our recent history that pulled it off were Walker and Rose for the simple fact they are great athletes.

Rose has never really recovered from his injuries and mental health issues so it's only a short term answer.

Maybe our manager isn't as good as some people think.

Mate ive been saying this so long im bored. Poch must be thick. The moment we agreed to sell Walker and Rose got hurt the system had to change. Instead he asked Tripps and Davis to do the impossible. We should be scouring the planet for Walker/Rose 2.0 or change the way we play. If Palace go down we should try and get Bissaka more than Zaha.

I noticed Sissoko defending deep behind Trippier a couple of times. On one occasion the commentator marvelled at how powerfully and quickly Sissoko got back. The Tripps header was very early in the match and he should have dealt with it. It seemed to me Sissoko had the brief to help out when Tripps got forward. I have mentioned this before, he is watchful in his MF role , mainly defensive and a link to the front 3 but he does break forward when the opportunity arises. So maybe Poch had given it some thought.

I have to say I am starting to see a player in Sissoko, may not be a mainstay. But he could become a very useful squad player, maybe missing out on a WC winners medal has motivated him.

We played with a back 3 for a lot of last night's game.

He has shown in the last couple of games that when he is 'on it' he can do a job for us, which is something I never anticipated saying before. If he plays like he did last night then he is someone that can be used when 1st teamers are injured etc

That's all he has ever been really. As Poch says it's a squad to be used . Not every player is a specialist, some are utility players who can do a job of sorts when needed.

Agree, Sissoko is supposed to be our 5th choice centre mid and probably our 6th choice attacking mid. With our injury record in the last couple of seasons, he's been invaluable.

As for Trippier, what he needs is resting / dropping. Fed up with the excuses being made for him. He's a right back who plays in a back four with license to get forward and no different from Walker, Trent or Azpicueleta. If Aurier had failed to get his feet off the ground for a simple defensive header and then got skinned by Sterling we all know the treatment he would be getting.

Once fit, Aurier needs an extended run in the league eleven and if he doesn't step up then we should flog him in the summer and cut our losses.

I think your comment re Aurier reveals a trend on here...whoever makes a critical mistake, or is just outplayed at one moment in the match, becomes a target for being branded useless...we have had Vorm, Hugo, Aurier, Sissoko all hopeless cases on here....it could be argued that if Aurier had missed that header he would have brought Sterling down in the penalty area with the same end result....these moments are what makes the game exciting....if Moura had done the same as Sterling it would be hailed as brilliant play by us not what terrible defending by them.

Our players are what they are and the main thing missing from our performances to date is the inability of Poch to develop them into a winning system of play. I know I have been as guilty as anyone else in commenting negatively about players, after all its part of any discussion, but I think perhaps we could all use a little more perspective.

None of them are useless, but Llorente obviously does a great impression of it at times :-)

Sort of agree with your comments on Poch's tactical setup especially with the full-backs. Whilst Poch could have the best tactical setup in the world, he can't compensate for the kind of mistake Trips made on Monday though. No manager could.

Not sure Trips has had one great game for Spurs this season, and with his current form it wouldn't be unfair of Poch to use one of the other right backs. I'm also still curious as to whether Aurier can make this transition. He has more raw attributes than Trips, but needs to cut out the mistakes. Even in Italy, he was our MoM but still lost his man from the corner for their goal.

If lamela had put that chance away and we had got a draw, the whole feeling on this site would have been upbeat...however that would hide the fact that we are still someway off the top teams, for whatever reasons be it expenditure, style of play over training or combinations thereof.
We all know us supporters need a real boost with a top signing to refresh all of our hopes and dreams!
