Gents,

A shameless bit of WX-ing here, but I see a lot of you guys are keen Zeppelin fans. Was looking to see if anyone knows anything about buying original vinyls:

I?m looking for a present for the best man at my wedding, he?s a bit of a hipster and loves his record player and is after some more Zeppelin records ? except I know very little about them. I was thinking I?d get him something special, maybe something rare ? a first press maybe, as i'm assuming that's more special/rare/coveted?

Was thinking of spending around a hundred quid, but I don?t know what they go for at all. So if that gets me 2/3, or if I?d need to up my budget I?d be keen to know.

With the wedding now in just 4 weeks and plenty to do, I don?t have the time to be digging around aimlessly in boot fairs but I am happy to go to a dealer if they have some good options, I obviously don?t want to pay over the odds, so want to know what I?m getting.

His mrs has suggested Led Zeppelin ? I think the ones he needs are Physical Graffiti, or Led Zepplin III.

She also suggested The Jam (he?s already got ?all mod cons? and ?setting sons?), Verve ? Urban Hymns, or a Radiohead album (you could go on forever trying to work out the fav radiohead album.

Does anyone know where I can source one for a reasonable price? Obviiusly I've googled it, but I don't really know what I am looking for, or know if the prices quoted are reasonable, or expensive.

As I say, I?d be keen to get a good quality first pressing if possible as it would be a bit special. Although if these are average albums of Zeppelin?s, I probably wouldn?t bother with getting the first press.

AK. They have re-issued most of the Led Zep album classics on the new 'ridiculously expensive' vinyl and even Sainsburys are flogging it!
You can buy some rare albums on Ebay but the scratches are never in the same place as when you originally owned it!

Yeh i am not sure he'd be after the re-mastered, new versions. I may be wrong, but I think it'd be more original or at least old versions he'd want more. As I say, he's a bit of a hipster - so anything 'new' is looked down upon :19:

Led Zepp 1 in turquoise print, Superhype publishing with matrix numbers not crossed out will cost about 1000. Got my copy in Gillingham High St in 1969! Open to offers!!!!!!

Just get him half a dozen Bevis Frond Albums

New River Head, Valedictory Songs, North Circular, The Leaving of London, White Numbers, Example 22 for instance.

Have seen this - it claims to be a first press - although I wondered if this was absolutely true, the 2nd vinyl (sides C and D) doesn't have the warner Bros. Does this mean it's actually not indeed a first pressing?

Lol love this board...come on asking about where to source some led zeppelin vinyl, and someone suggests you get vinyls of a completely different, rather obscure band.

AK check out the Discogs marketplace, by far the cheapest website for rare secondhand vinyl. I've managed to replenish my collection my old man accidentally gave away when he was moving to Spain and doing a clear out, all the Led Zep's, Fleetwood Mac Rumours etc, all original for a few quid. I even managed to replace all my hardcore and jungle 12"'s :41:

Thanks ME2 ? looking on there now. It?s strange, I?m looking at the 2 Led Zeppelin ones primarily (Led Zeppelin III and Physical Graffiti), and the price ranges from 25 to 80+. See this one for example ? Led Zeppelin III - Seems like a very good condition copy. But then I don?t know about these things. I can?t imagine why there are some of seeming lesser quality up at about 50.

Can anyone give me an idea as to whether any of this one?s reasonable value?

Also picked out the following - for physical Graffiti?

Any guidance greatly appreciated!

They look good to me, the grading is important to the sellers or they'll get reported and closed down for selling goods which are in poor condition - so if it says VG+ for example you will get exactly that. It's a very good site for honest sales.

Actually I have since done a bit of digging, and i've found these options:

Led Zeppelin III

Physical Graffiti?

Any guidance greatly appreciated!

Thanks. I have seen some for sale by one time sellers, so I would assume that i'm better off looking for sellers who have sold lots - which they are. Its the same as on ebay I suppose.

There aren't any. Pomp rock shite along with the Brick in the Wall mob.. Not worthy of licking the boots of Kent"s own Rolling Stones

PhilK. I say the opposite. Saw Zeppelin in 75 and Stones in 76, both Earls Court. Zep 3+ hours of brilliance. Stones 90 minutes of half hearted shite plugging their latest album. Top track for me is "When the levee breaks"

Fair enough Gills1958 - it's all a matter of taste. Was never a Beatles man either.

Incidentally was 1958 your birth year or when you started supporting our team? It happens to be the year I started supporting at the age of 11.

My year of birth. First game on 1/1/66, Beatles the Swine 1-0. You make me look like a beginner!

Still a regular + my son even though I left Kent back in 76

Doh, "beat" the Swine, not Beatles. F'ing predictive text. Just been forced to junk my "burner" and am struggling with 21st century technology.

My son said I needed a thick phone, not a smart one.
