Too many chances missed

Alert Team
Our profligacy in front of goal this season is hurting us badly.

Pep won't win the league with a team that needs 14 chances to score one goal

It is but I think Aguero needs a partner, Negredo was a perfect foil for him when he was in form, but now we are obsessed by trying to control the middle, even yesterday we played three at the back but did we play an extra out and out striker?

The main thing is we are creating the chances.

Chance creation clearly isn't a problem but our lack of clinical finishing is proving an Achilles heal. De Bruyne's miss from 5 yards was unfortunate - they either fly in or they don't. The ball is travelling so fast that an inch either way on where it hits your boot........and the ball hits the bar rather than the net :017:

The other chances however are the key ones - Aguero's header and his blocked shot in the first half; The shot's saved from KDB and Aguero in the second half....those are the ones that we're not putting away.

Their goals were scored with our defenders facing their own goal, the last two running at full pace. We have not scored a goal like that for ages - when we attack at pace. What struck me yesterday was the number of bodies that Chelsea got in the way of goal bound efforts - Azplecueta, Cahill, Luiz etc - all got solid blocks on shots and the efforts from Aguero were impeded by challenges from Kante (header) or Azplecueta (Aguero shot in second half). They had bodies back and they were getting in the way - a product of too slow a build up?

The blocked Aguero shot in the first half was great defending, as you alluded to in your third paragraph, Skoorb.

The main thing that struck me was we didn't thump the ball, as Chelsea did with the three finishes; if Aguero had done this with the effort Cahill blocked on the line, who knows?

Equally, although our defence left a lot to be desired, for all the comments about Chelsea's concession of goals, they also made plenty of basic errors that they managed to recover.

The only time we really did thump the ball (as also pointed out), we hit the bar. :013:

I don't think it was a product of slow build up Skoorb, I thought we were fine in that regard yesterday, more a product of how deep Chelsea sat.

That was a good block by Asspilletc. but still think Kun should've buried it, what a fantastic move btw from Silva's chipped pass to Sané's great run and knock down to Aguero. I was impressed by Sané yesterday.

Sané did well considering he was isolated out on the wide left. Clearly under instruction to pin Moses back and did a pretty good job in neutralising that threat most of the game. Gret run and first time pass to Kun. Azpelcueta's block for the shot was gret defending but not sure it wouldn't have been saved by Courtois (not that he would have known).

Build up - on reflection and watching the game again I will rescind my slow build up comment. Some of the breaks were fast - we just didn't bury the chances we created.

I agree Skoorb and the lad was played out of position to his favoured right, but did his job, pity the Ref didn't do his.

Will the real Kevin DeBruyne please stand up, that's an open goal and an absolute sitter missed in our last two home games that would've sealed the three points in both. Come on Kev, you're better than that.
