Never too early but I have seen this a few times and I simply can’t see how we would be interested at around £2m.
Be very surprised if we spent £1m on a player, let alone £2m!

Get entirely what your saying re spending £1-£2m on a player but when we go up we are going to be in a totally different sphere. After 60 odd years of competing in tiers 3,4 & 5 it is difficult to get your head around the enormity of the situation, I know I'm struggling with it, whilst ecstatic in equal measures. I think we may push the boat out a little, I suppose its all about scale, if the recruitment team can find a player at £1m, and the coaches can turn the potential into £10- £15m, then in effect it's what we have done anyway, just with bigger numbers!

I take that on board, but surely not for a defender? Maybe a striker or creative midfielder, where you could make your money back tenfold. It's pretty rare that defenders sell on for really big money.

I’m sure we will look to a few quality additions who would strengthen us for the season after if relegated coupled with some premier league loans that would/could be the difference in staying up.

Absolutely don’t see us ‘going for it’, that simply isn’t the Lincoln way and could seriously undo all of the good work getting to this point.

Laughable to even consider a £2m transfer free.

To be honest I didn't notice what position he was and take your point but the principle remains the same

I accept that we'll be bottom decile on the budget front, but part of the "good work" has been making improvements across all areas of the operation, we are about to spend around £2m on the ground? I definitely wouldn't advocate recklessness, I guess we'll find out in the summer.

The £2m + is Ron Fowler’s hand in his pocket, doubt it would have been done without him willing to fund it. He is well known in the US for providing a good fan experience.
 
I would suggest we will sign a player for 1 million pound plus within the next year. That’s not being reckless, that is the level we are moving up to. Jack Moylan will receive offers of topside of 5 million when he shines next season. …and we will probably turn them down as we push for a play off place.
 
If we go up survival will be the equivalent of winning League 1. When Jovan went to Norwich it seemed like an enormous fee, but to them it was literally chicken feed. Are we going to have the funds to be able to get players in even at those prices without getting drawn into the spiral of debt or cashing in on our current squad. How we set up to compete in the Championship will be interesting to say the least.

This summer could be very interesting in terms of where we strengthen and how much of that £11 million we spend, what we save.

I think @johnolbe is right, I think we will spend a £1m on a transfer by the end of the summer… IF (when) we go up.

From a financial point of view, it's quite unnerving given the budgets and losses up there.

From a sporting perspective, obviously exciting!
 
I had a quick look at other clubs that would sit in that bottom sphere of the Championship over the last few years to see what they had spent.

Rotherham; Nombe £1.1m, Barlaser £780k, Tiéhi £600k
Oxford; Romeny £2m, Kioso £800k, Johnson £800k
Peterborough; 10 signings between £1.9m and £900k
Wycombe; Westergaard £1m, Morley £800k, Hagelskjaer £510k
Plymouth; 6 players between £2m and £1m in the last 6 years
Blackpool; Ebiowei £1.15m, Gabriel £875k (5 other signings while in Premiership)
Barnsley; Kane £1.4m, Benson £1.2m (14 other signings 1996 to 2020)

So, all of them have made at least one £1m signature, but really not as many as we might think. I can see us leaning more heavily on Premiership loans in our first year back, a bit like we did when we first came up to League 1. It is a lower risk strategy while we find our feet.

Personally I think the most important factor over the summer will not be the players we bring in, but potentially the players (and coaching staff) we might lose.

Thankfully, in a way, I don't think we have as many "attractive" players for other clubs as we have had in the past couple of seasons.

As regards who might attract bids amongst our regular starters - Wickens? Moylan? Street? Draper possibly?

Hopefully we can keep the squad - and coaching staff - intact though!

Adding to that, salaries have also gone up significantly even in the last 2 seasons.
Wycombe only had one season up, so their spending is the closest match - I.e first season up - but it was the season after covid, and fees have also gone up since then.
 
Skubala will probably be the biggest concern for me as he is sure to have a lot of clubs looking at him. I am hoping he will want a crack at the Championship with us after all his hard work along with the other backroom staff.

As for players, Draper, Moylan, Ivan as a start could easily create interest, but I am more comfortable we wouldn’t sell for 50p and a curly wurly these days with how well we are run as a club.
