No probs McParland and yes good point about managers but that's the impression I've had and Bruce doesn't fit that role with his own speeches which is why I'd love him to succeed.

But yeah agree also, this don't lose attitude hampers us, when we actually go at teams we look a hell of a lot better.
 
Looking back through this thread, the general consensus was that we should be looking for 12 points minimum from September's matches.

Well, with only Bolton left to come, we've gained 11 points from the games so far, so assuming we don't fuck it up on Saturday, we can certainly claim to have had a pretty decent month as we head into another :20: international :20: break :20:

Definite signs we have turned a corner, but the real test will come in the next few matches as we face Wolves, Fulham and Small Heath.

14 from 18 is a good month by any standards. Given the standard of the opposition I think the 12 from 18 as a minimum acceptable was right, so 14 from 18 is comfortably above that. Could we have done better? Probably; Brentford we could have lost but a win would have been a reasonable expectation.

A good enough month in retrospect. What about the future? I think we're short of a plan B when things aren't working. At the moment the team being put out is the one which seems to work best for us, but it wasn't that great today and we need substitutions which can make a difference. And we can't keep putting that team out week after week. We have a more testing month coming up; it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

Have to say I criticised all three substitutions when they were made but the first double change led to us controlling the ball in their half and when they did look dangerous Samba saved the win towards the end.

Credit where it’s due for Bruce from me today.

Just checked , we actually won 4 on bounce last season then drew at Burton 1-1
 
If we win the next 3 I'll be impressed , especially if he persists with Whelan and Hourihane as a central partnership . A good manager will get the changes right and at the right time , not wait until we are 2 down at wolves and those pair are chasing shadows .

Samba turned out to be his best substitution yesterday as the big lump headed a few away and threw himself to block a certain goal.

Onomah looked sharp yesterday , if he could be disciplined enough to play as one of the two central midfielders he has to be an improvement on Hourihane or Whelan . Jedinak is and Improvement on those two as well .

Bruce is on a hiding to nothing , change things and we lose or don't change things and we lose he'll get slated either way .

I'm a great believer in picking your best side on the day to win against the opposition you are faced with .
Yesterday he got it right as Bolton were a team of thugs . Wolves are a different side altogether .
In saying that we all know he'll start with the same side except for Taylor
 
Decent month and I think Bruce just about got away with it. Should've had the 3 points against Boro and Brentford I'm not having it that they were quality opposition. Boro went down to 10 men and Brentford well they are Brentford. In between the league games we also tanked out of a cup competition losing 3 nil at home. I can't sit here bigging it up when we can only beat the shite teams. We're Aston Villa not Wigan.

Completely disagree with that.

Surely nobody could slate him for sticking with the same team that has won 4 games in a row?

Injuries allowing it should be same again vs Wolves, no questions asked.
 
Good month and we are knocking on the door of the top six. One thing is for sure though we will lose a game at some point, and as soon as we do the knives will be back out again for him. It is a shame but that is the modern game.
 
TBF there is a little bit of hysteria when we win, just read the last match thread you wouldn't think we won!
I heard Bruce speak on Radio 5 on Saturday and he comes across as a smashing bloke who knows what he is doing. After the merry go round of managers we have had I am delighted to have someone who has the gravitas and experience to managed us. He is a breath of fresh air.
 
I think the "slatings" are principally because of the performances. We can all take a defeat as long as we are competing and creating our own chances. It's when we have 29% possession and zero shots on goal that fans quite rightly get upset.

We have invested heavily in the squad, the team is now predominantly Bruce's own choices/buys and there is no reason that we cannot compete with anyone in this division that I can see. The rest comes down to fitness, application and tactics - all within the manager's gift. I really hope we get the results through October against some of the more difficult opponents in the division. It will clearly show whether we are promotion material and whether SB and his staff are on the right track IMHO.
 
I slated Bruce mainly due to his tinkering with a winning side and leaving a player like Adomah on the bench. Also I totally disagreed with him picking Agoalayear.

He has now fixed all 3 things I was unhappy about and has managed to get an excellent haul of points in September.

The next step now is to get through October unbeaten, something that is going to test us to the limits.
