Tony Xia - September will be crucial for us.

One Bloody Number
SO that was the good doctors latest twitter post.

I see that as a bit of an ultimatum for Bruce. I think if we have a bad September he'll be gone.

So what would represent a good and bad month, when looking at the fixtures?

9 Sep - Aston Villa vs Brentford
12 Sep - Aston Villa vs Middlesbrough
16 Sep - Barnsley vs Aston Villa
19 Sep - Aston Villa vs Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup
23 Sep - Aston Villa vs Nottm Forest
26 Sep - Burton vs Aston Villa
30 Sep - Aston Villa vs Bolton

So breaking that down we have 5 home games, 2 away games .

The 2 away games are against 2 of the poorest teams in the league.

In fact Bolton, Barnsley and Burton are currently the 3 favorites for relegation.

I think we have to be looking at 4 points from the 2 away games. Should be 6 really but given our horrendous away form I'd be happy with 4.

As for the 4 home games we must beat Bolton and Brentford. I think a point against Boro and Forest wouldn't be disasterous.

So I reckon......

12 points would be par, anything above would be a good month, anything less and it's bye bye Brucey, although if we got 11 points and progressed in the cup that may just be enough.

Thought the same when I saw the dr's tweet. I think he's piling some pressure on Bruce, who always had previous managers' faults, relegation hangover etc as an excuse. He's been backed up heavily in January, and the investment didn't put us where we wanted to be, nowhere near in fact. No more excuses Brucie, it's time to put up or shut up.

Yes it is a warning no doubt. I don't think Bruce will be surprised about that , he isn't daft , he must know the score.

All those matches are winnable. Think 12 from 18 is minimum.

Yes, I would say 12 is minimum plus a win in the cup. Although the cup is slightly irrelevant in some ways, it's about momentum and confidence, and also needing to keep the fans motivated.

It's been a very average start, so accumulating major points in September is crucial imho.

Thing is if Bruce gets the old Spanish archer that means we are in the crap promotion wise with probably too much to do. Deja vu, it's last season!.

And the cycle continues.....

12 pts would probably give us a shout at the playoff spots
(altho Fulham got in with 14 pts after 11 last time)

automatic prob needs 20+ pts after 11 so just the 15+ pts from the next 6 if Bruce is not to fail again (and again kids in the rumbelows cups)

Just because I have my doubts about Bruce means nothing - what is important is him getting the points on the board and getting us promoted.

I agree with the comments that it will be bad for the club for him to be released without achieving promotion and it will sadly mean yet another wasted season in this poxy league.

Off topic but say Bruce does get us promoted I wonder how much would Dr. Tone be prepared to spend building a new team for the Premier League because if you stand still in that league you easily get overtaken and you go back down......On reflection has Dr. Tony actually got that amount of money!? - I guess none of us actually know but let's get there first!

Let's hope Bruce / Calderwood pick and coach us correctly.

I think we have the players to have a successful time, the management and coaches concern me if I'm honest.

13 to 15 pts in the league.

Not bothered about the cup one bit so losing that is fine.

1 draw against either Forest or Middlesborough.

4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss

Other than that, no excuses.

Bruce has a 12 month rolling contract. Does that mean it's renewed (or not) every 12 months, or he gets paid 12 months if he gets sacked?

Wouldn't say that manager change = goodbye to promotion this season. Think we have a very good squad for the Championship; it's a question of making best use of it.

to be fair we should be beating the 3 worst teams in the league home and away, so that's 9 points right there no excuses.

A team wanting auto promotion should beat a team almost certain to be relegated.

Then Forest, Boro and Brentford at home.... well we're at home and we do have a decent record at home, so 4 points MINIMUM from those.

So I've changed my view in that 13 points not 12 should be par.

I have checked out many previous seasons of championship teams who were mid table after 15 games and very few got promoted from that poor a start. 2 points a game , minimum 73 points for the play offs , +20 goal difference to get near auto promotion. If after 10 games we have 10 points we will be climbing a mountain again. To think that the only reason davis played against Norwich was because flabby was injured and against bristol hutton would have played if he wasn't injured , grim.

I've not seen his tweet.

Hope that helps inform the debate a bit! :14:

Felt soured last season Bristol away game. Much better today though we'd even betterer. Sept. Will be crucial for us. #UTV

not sure that is a warning really, it is stating the obvious I guess... it is crucial...

my understanding is that each day it basically renews to 12 months... as opposed to at the end of the first year it automatically rolls on

I thought it meant he was contracted for 12 months and then at the end of that period, it renews for another 12 months (and so on) - kind of like a tenancy, or rolling phone contract which renews for another 30 days at the end of each 30 day period.

So come October (or whenever he signed), assuming he's still in post, his deal will renew until October 2018, which would mean we have to pay him up for any period still owing (i.e. if we then removed him in January, we'd owe him 9 months' wages).

I'm boring myself now - sorry :12:

It's a valid article but fails to mention the fact that the arrival of Onomah and the emergence of Davis are the real game changers ... if only he sees it.
