Tonight’s Fixtures

True, but I'd still not rather have had the experience in the first place if it is all the same to you

Horrible though it was, I wouldn't want to change any footballing events that prevented the Cowley years from happening. We've had as many magic moments in the last few seasons as we have in my previous 50 years of supporting the Imps! And I'm very hopeful that the next few seasons, under MApp, will add more memorable matches and moments to those memories.

True, but I'd still not rather have had the experience in the first place if it is all the same to you. I still cringe at the away game at Oxford and the last game of the season against Aldershot, when we just needed one fucking point to stay up and avoid a mass of misery..

Not sure my quote will last the test of time, but the passion is nevertheless integral to the narrative; regardless of the context (and living 12 miles from Shrewsbury I haven't missed the irony of quotations from someone who specialises on writing about the Lake District).

Me neither, but those scars are there to remind us how close the abyss can be even when it seems like a distant horizon, and should prevent any semblance of complacency creeping in. If Michael has anything about him he should know exactly why the fans are edgy and if he's not sure he just needs to ring Bob D. and ask him. I don't know any fan who isn't desperate for us to stay up and cement our place in this league and the closeness of that achievement brings it's own nervousness.

I remember Danny saying towards the end of the autumn of his first season in charge that the fans had "learnt to trust the players". It was a trust that needed earning after some of the car crashes we had witnessed and I suspect his new squad probably needs to garner some points soon so the fans can relax and get on with the business of enjoying the prospect of our second season in tier 3 for another season (for the first time in many, many years)

No jitters here at the minute after last nights results. Tranmere need to win 5 of their remaining 12 to overtake us and that's assuming we don't pick up any points in the meantime.

They do have a half decent run of fixtures coming up but I think others will be more wary of them than we are.

Had we not been relegated, there's no doubt in my mind, we wouldn't be where we are now. More likely still floating around the bottom 4 or 5 in L2, or gone down a couple of years later and wallowed in the upper reaches of NL for the rest of time!
I'm no believer in fate, but we hit bottom at the right time.
