An additional problem we have with the Selenity is that it was built in the immediate aftermath of the Bradford fire. No one can ever doubt that the design and construction of football stadia had to be improved significantly because many of them were seriously unsafe, but the amount of room given to every spectator and the width of the gangways in the Selenity were completely OTT. Despite its considerable size, there are only 1350 seats in it (plus the directors' box). It was said a few years ago that it cannot be restructured - presumably, that means that any extensions/wings added would not only be extremely expensive, but would also need to match the format of the existing centre section. In that case, exactly how many additional seats would those extensions add, relative to the cost?
