To Lose is to win and he who wins shall lose

An interesting statement that.

Football insomnia or a reflective tone. Call it what you want.

Essentially we lost tonight, but we won. Why? Well I for one think that League One would have been too much of a battle next year, given the fact that we are still some way off the pace behind the scenes.

Nowadays people want instant success. Instant feedback. Instant messages. The brain has not and is some significant way off in dealing with that, which can build on anxiety and cause mental health problems. Everything must be now, now, now.

Well, things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day, and whether you take the evangelical outlook, or a more scientific approach, good things generally come to those who wait.

In the very famous and brilliant book The Pilgrim's Progress, by John Bunyan, the pilgrim - Christian finds rest at the House of The Interpreter. Present are two children. Patience and Passion. Essentially they are both offered to have their inheritance bought off them and given to them there and then, Passion brags about this and returns moments later explaining she has lost it all and now has nothing. Patience refuses it. The Interpreter explains that Passion is the child of now and Patience is the child of what is to come.

I know that an evangelical text may not be to everyone's taste, but I believe that example shows the need of the case for things to be put into perspective. Recently the new swathe of fans whom have been attracted to the club have shown tremendous passion, but we could all be slightly guilty of wanting everything now? Could we really? Yes I do believe we could.

The thing is, sometimes you have to take stock. You need a hiatus. There is nothing wrong with that. We all need breathing space. We all need to look around and plan for the next stage. Builders don't look at a plot of land and then just whack up any old structure. It needs design, preparation, foundations and then the build begins, stage by stage, thoroughly. After all what is the point of having a house that falls down, owing to a lack of care in its construction.

Just because we did not win tonight, does not mean we have lost. Indeed if we had been like Passion and had all our desires in one go, then what we we have to look forward to? The answer is nothing.

It is important, as a supporter of anything, to realise that it doesn't go our way. For the new fans this will be the first taste of this. The disappointment that has unfortunately followed us around for our long support of the club. Moments of success brief and passing. Moments of despair or underachieving in plentiful.

The way forward is uncertain, we do not know what the next season will bring. That is surely a good thing. Lots of planning and preparation will be made, we may require some patience, not everything will go in our favour.

If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain.

Our season may have ended with a defeat, but In reality our season was a huge victory.
