Following on from my ramblings on the forum recently about clearing out bedrooms etc. has led me to ponder on how much we keep we don't need, even if your not a hoarder, which I am not.

How much do you keep and would you consider or the other half would consider you a hoarder?

Has it shocked you when you or said other half has decided to have a clear out and you see how much you have kept without intending too and wouldn't have?

Hoarders/hoarders or/and the program in this county is called Obsessional Compulsive Disorders. Now let me be clear this is meant as a lightweight thread. Much seriousness in the world at the moment. I do not, nor either think the problem is funny. I have mild OCD too myself as well as other M/H problems.

I just thought I would bring a change of pace from the various politics scenario's and see what type of a person are you regarding being OCD or a hoarder?

I have what is classed as mild OCD: I am not like the 1's you see on the TV programs, however OCD is part of me. I hate hoarding, so have been shocked recently at some of the stuff I have hung on to since we moved here 14 + years ago. It didn't trouble me to get rid of stuff though. I like clean, I like order. I suspect some has been held on to longer as we haven't moved for 14 years or plan too again.

Mr KK is a mild hoarder: It is his stuff I have had to get ruthless with him over. I have cleaned out his storage bags and boxes with him, chucking rubbish out, like empty bottles (why?) and bits of papers and the like. I then have sat with him whilst he has gone through the stuff.

Needless to say he has thrown out alot of stuff. Found things he didn't even know he had bought and had forgotten about. It's been like Christmas for him again. Charity shop collected this morning so that the sheds emptied again for the 2nd time recently.

Oh we won't even go there over when I cleaned the shed. Lets just say you can move around in there now and actually find things.

Oh hum so what type of person are you?

I don't understand why everyone seems to want or need a badge these days.

I am what I am.... !

I am probably OCD in many respects. I hate chaos and disorder, lack of attention to detail.

I certainly wouldn't characterise myself as a hoarder, whereas Mrs JPA is probably the opposite. I can't wait to 'spring clean' and remove what I consider unnecessary clutter (is any clutter ever necessary?!) but I'm happy with that.

I wouldn't say it's a badge, nor do I advertise my 'compulsions' but I know they are there!!

I like minimalist, no hoarding, things get used or taken to a charity shop/recycled. Cannot abide clutter.

Everything has to have a place and a place for everything!

I'm like you. I kind of enjoy throwing things out. If I don't need it, it's gone.

My wife is the opposite. She likes to have one of everything so that she'll have it in the remote possibility that she might need it in the future.

We still have my kids' potty despite them not using it for 3 years and neither of us wanting another one.

Also love it when I've worn something out, got full value from it!

That will be any and all of your f**king jokes Mr Fear :3:

I seem to be a hoarder, but out of laziness rather than anything else. I can't be arsed to drive to the tip and decided to 'downsize' my car so have no room.

Can't stand my daughter building towers with blocks if they're not a) colour coded, b) in anything but a traditional looking brick build.

Not sure if this just makes me a dick rather than a bit OCD

Must admit I hate a mess and like things to be tidy. Definately not obsessively but i certainly encourage the family to tidy up as they go along . Makes life so much easier. Mrs Melon definitely has that 'mum' problem of not throwing the kids stuff away especially the baby stuff. We have a shelf of books that are for toddlers yet my two are now 11 and 14 for example

Don't know why but the thing that really grips me is a mixed up fridge. Group the foods on the shelves together !!!.

Yes, get rid. 11 years is too much of an age gap now for Mrs Melon to get any ideas....

I am in a similar situation myself - far too much baby and toddler bric-a-brac still on the premises for my liking :10:

Oh god! the thought of it :154:

However, i do want a dog. In fact everyone in the household wants a dog. Mrs Melon doesn't. It is an ongoing debate that is going nowhere fast.

You could strike a bargain here and tell her she can keep the books if you can have a dog, otherwise the books go :19:
