Time to finally make up some lost ground?

Vital Reserves Team
After stagnating for a number of seasons, a foreign manager with no experience of managing an English team is brought in by a chairman who has a record of being trigger happy. He buys a number of players with no experience of English football but he brings a style of football that sees his team scoring freely but they can't defend. Results are far from what was expected and the supporters start to get restless.

This would be a very accurate description of Notts last season but today this is far more appropriate to the lot over the river. There have been a number of opportunities to close the gap over the years but every time they have messed up, we have somehow managed to outdo them. It is very early days in the season of course but early signs are promising. So could this finally be the year when we start to close the gap?

Some of you might be of the opinion 'What does it matter what they do?' but I am firmly of the view that their success has been one of the biggest single factors that has held us back over the years. I still live in hope that I will live to see the day when we are officially the top dogs. I know we are miles away from that at the minute but things can change quickly in football. I continue to live in hope.

I remember when we were top dog in the 50's!

Getting into the same League would be a start but we will struggle to pull in the crowds even if we do.

Just give me a few years in a higher division before I go off to meet my maker. That's all I ask. It's funny how football goes in cycles though. There are some pretty big teams towards the bottom of League 1 now and Villa are struggling in the Championship whereas Bury, Sc***horpe and Port Vale are all doing well at the top of League 1.

Our time will come again and when it does, it will have been worth the wait.

At least I did get to see all the First Division days so that is some consolation. I doubt that it will happen in what is left of my lifetime.

I was a little boy when we got there in the 80s but I do have some recollections of us being in the top flight back then. Thankfully, I was a season ticket holder by the time we got there again with Warnock. I just hope that my 2 boys get to see some success as they grow up. We've been outside the top 2 divisions for far too long now.

So true .After over 65 years of going down the Lane, you have to enjoy the good bits when you can.
