Hansen set to leave Match of the Day next year
Alan Hansen is to leave Match of the Day next year, according to a report from one of Britain's most respected sports media journalists.
Former Liverpool defender Hansen has become a household name as chief pundit on the top flight highlights programme for more than 20 years.
But Charles Sale of the Daily Mail claims that next season will be the last for the Scot.
Hansen, who turned 58 two days ago, will leave his job at the BBC after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with the Corporation apparently having decided that the programme is in for a "much-needed shake-up".
There has often been huge controversy around Hansen, who earned an incredible £1.5 million a year for his one-day-a-week job, yet who still used to claim huge expenses bills to take him from his home in Southport down to London for filming.
That controversy died down two years ago when he agreed a new contract worth considerably less after the football highlights show moved to the new BBC sport headquarters in Salford.
And it seems this time that Hansen's gravy train is to stop for good. His current contract expires next summer, and it seems he will have to find a new job elsewhere if he wants to keep on predicting that teams will win nothing with kids.
