Thoughts on released and retained list

Goalkeepers: I'll confess I know little on the two young keepers Boney and Sims but you would presume that both have showed enough potential to have been offered a new deal/had their option taken up. Sounds like Bowyer wanted to keep Williams as third choice and goalkeeper coach (which I would have been in favour of) but Williams still thinks he has something to offer as a player. Think that's a little naive myself - he is 35 after all. African lad still has a year to run on his deal and it's a big game for him today - needs to impress or he could find himself well down the pecking order next season. Allsop is obviously just a bad memory now but I think Lumley is one to keep an eye on - there's some confusion over whether he's under contract at QPR next season or not, but either way, unless he's first choice at Loftus Road, we should be making a move for him. The defence clearly feel comfortable with him and he has scope to improve. Keeper is a priority this off-season.

Defence: No surprise to see Taylor released. Unlike others on here, I think he's actually done ok for us especially in relation to his experience and professionalism. I thought he might join the coaching staff, but he'll be a decent pick up for a mid-table League Two side. Anderton needs to kick on this coming pre-season, and although I've been in two minds on Daniel this season (loved him last season) I support him being offered a new deal. If both him and Mellor (who is fantastic) sign up then that's the full back positions sorted, especially when you throw my Player of the Season Turton into the mix. I've always quite liked Aimson and hadn't realised he had played as many games for us as he has. I would have offered him a new deal but maybe at the age of 24 he wants to go and play regularly which is understandable. Leaves us needing two centre halves this summer (on the basis that the ever solid Clark Robertson agrees to stay - I hope he does, I like both him and Tilt). I know nothing about Denzel Williams and Caleb Richards.

Midfielders: In this section I have included wingers. I'm a little disappointed that Delf has got another year. He blows hot and cold too much and has he really done enough this year bar his recent run of goalscoring form? I suppose he is fine as a squad player. I would love to keep Solomon-Otabor but just can't see it - he has plenty of potential and should have lots of takers. Bowyer has really developed him - just like he has with several others. GB seemed to be a big fan of Philliskirk's so I'm a little surprised to see him go especially when you consider that Menga has been offered a new deal. I can only think that this comes down to two factors - Philliskirk was on decent money, especially for someone not first choice in any position and Menga adds pace in a team short on it. Clayton has a year left to run on his deal but I suspect that we will look to offload him in the summer - for someone on a decent whack, he's been nowhere. Based on what my mate who has a Wrexham ST says Quigley has played through the middle for them and shined - it'll be interesting to see the player who comes back to us after he didn't show a great deal in the short bursts he had playing for us. I feared that McAlister was going to get another year when he played v Gillingham, but thankfully not. He shouldn't have been retained 12 months ago. I'm surprised Sessi is going. I like him. Full of energy and the only defensive minded centre mid we have! This will be a key area to strengthen in the summer. Would love it if we could get Longstaff on loan again next year but I suspect he will have his eyes on a move to the Championship. I quite like Cooke and think there is a good player there but he hasn't shown enough. Ryan obviously under contract next season. I liked the Spearing signing but wasn't sold on him first few times I saw him. However he's come on strong back end of the season and I'd be happy if he stayed. Will be interesting to see if Fin Sinclair-Smith can kick on. Wide men definitely a key area (like so many are!) to improve in the summer.

Strikers: Roache under contract for next year - will be interesting to see if he can kick on. Matt and Correia were nailed on to go and neither will be missed. I would like us to keep all three of Vass, Cullen and Gnanduillet but wouldn't say no to adding another striker in the summer. Agyei has done little bar spur Gnanduillet on.

Fingers crossed those out of contract agree to stay or we have a massive rebuilding job on - one that might prove to be impossible.

Lumley came back for the awards night. Clearly enjoyed being here, the fact that Bowyer went for him pre season last hyear shows he rates him. I'd love him to come on a season loan.He is pretty solid.

We need a goalkeeping coach too as that was the role Williams was undertaking after Timmins left.

Mellor is a must signing. Turton has been a real revelation and is nailed on RB. I don't think Anderton is the answer and whilst Daniel has done well I think we need a specialist LB.

Tilt is a nailed on starter and whilst Robertson has a gaff a game ala Cathcart in him if he signs I will be pleased they are a good partnesrhip together. We do need cover. Hartley never worked out and I am disappointed Aimsomn hasn't been kept on.

Scrafton suggesting yesterday Spearing has said his goodbyes. I like him and would like him to stay. He fits in well and has developed a good relationship with Ryan.

We have missed the Potts type of player running with the ball at defences. Longstaff went off the boil after his injury and Cooke is a good player. I'm hoping Boro go up that way he may come back.
Played very well in patchess this season people forget how young he is.
Viv has really come on. We will miss him. No chance of him comig back. Interesting when GB dropped him for disciplinary reasons around Christmas time. I think he will become a good player at least Championship level.
I'm not convinced by Menga.
Sinclair - Smith is still way off a starting place so we need at least 2 of these type players. Delf is better out wide than as a CF.
I hope we get a midfielder who can take setpieces. Ryan HAS to take everything and his delivery is fcuking woeful at best.

If we had a striker the quality of Billy Sharp this seasson we would have had a bagfull of goals.
Cullen's box awareness has been sorely missed. Yesterday and last Saturday showed that despite being the better team over 2 games a lack of a finisher cost us an extra 5 pts.

Frenchie has got better Vassell needs to be injury free. I guarantee iof he stays he will be injured from the first week of December until mid Jan. He suffers from Christmasitus.

I'd like all 3 to start and I actually would like Agyei to come on a season long loan. He is strong and pacey and I think he will become a decent striker.
We need a Dicko type player to play off the big men upfront.

Main signing for us is GB. He has worked nothing short of a miracle under the conditions of the last 2 seasons.
New owner + injection of £ - GB has an eye for a player, give him the right backing and let's push on.

Good well thought out post.

Good posts

Sign GB and then a GK

Decided that OO is going to be there next season so I won't be disappointed if he is

the only way we cold get rid of Phiily was contract end, owdham saved a fortune getting him off the books and was costing us a fortune as a squad player without a regular position.

Would happily have Agyei back on a season long loan based on Sat.

Sounds like Spearing is gone?

Reliably informed that Quigley has asked to leave.

Not bothered about Quigley. Peters out of Peters and Lee could get himself in to better positions during play than him. I would like Spearing to stay.

Lenny peters ~ stevie wonder strike force. Ray Charles in goal and Willie Johnson the roaming midfielder to replace spearing.

Quigley - what did GB see in him. Will be fantastic in non league football but wow is he out of his depth

Some players just keep scoring as they move up the levels, others don't. You never know till they've had the chance c.f. Jamie Vardy.
