Thommo

I am pretty sure I recall being in the Stacey West when Impalex led a chant of "keeper, takes it up the arse". I remember because I was very shocked as I was aware that he was a schoolteacher at the time. This was in the days when we were shit and there were about 200 of us max in there.

That's not very tolerant, is it?

I think you'll find that wasn't me, but I won't say who did actually start that chant, as he did on a number of occasions with regards Simon Yeo, but I assure you, it wasn't me.

Ahhh the SW days.

We were discussing in work the other day how you never heard some of the songs you used to 10/15 years ago. What happened to 'you're shit ahhhhhhh' when a 'keeper was taking a GK?

You probably did, but then again, you would. Funny how people who may not agree with you are 'tossers' which may indicate that you are not as tolerant as you try to make others believe that you are.

I often agree with your comments, but you've undone yourself with that comment.
Piers Morgan is a grade A tosser. I make no apologies saying that. He is just a deeply unpleasant man.

At the end of the day it’s mostly all hot air, attention seeking. There’s plenty of serious issues in the World that require worrying about over this and a handful of sad people who get easily offended or more likely grabbed an opportunity to bear their petty angst with a messy and less-than-perfect World on a local radio commentator. Sorry, but leaders should ‘grow a pair’ (Piers said it, blame him not me) and complainants should simply grow up (heightism not intended) or switch off (if it’s really that intolerable). Why does everything have to be a drama? Why does somebody (anybody) have to be held to account for the most minor of transgressions to bloat somebody’s need for importance, something that they can’t earn ‘legitimately’.
Disclaimer: the author acknowledges that he is on his fourth glass of wine, and accepts no liability or responsibility for any (pretend) offence imagined by others.

He certainly came across as a bully and not interested in a substantive argument/discussion. We did a better job of exploring the issues on this thread.

Being offended is an emotion that can only be felt by, for the want of a better phrase, the victim. Challenging the boundaries of, again for the want of a better phrase, lad culture is important if society is to reduce/eradicate the egregious actions of a minority. Only by doing this can we create an environment in which those that have been truly harmed feel able to step forward. I am willing to accept that phrases that I deem to be harmless should be challenged. I also accept that apparently insincere expressions of being offended are just a part and parcel of moving forward.

As I write this, I am mindful of discussions this week concerning Anton Ferdinand's interviews during the John Terry racism inquiries. It is said he was made to feel like the bad guy. How wrong is it that any alleged victim should be treated with anything other than compassion and understanding. If complainants are later shown to be disingenuous, throw the book at them, but do not put barriers in the way of those that genuinely aggrieved.

Does Thommo really have to attend a course, before coming back re-educated and suitably chastened in the new year?
Think I'd tell the BBC to stuff it and find another pastime.

its called income like most of us you take money where you can irrespective of what you actually think

Back to the topic.
Firstly, I hate prejudice of any kind racial, sexual or whatever.
But I do think there are a few people who have nothing better to do than search every quote, statement made in all forms of media. So they can report and complain about them.
Yes an awful lot do need action taken but in this case I think there has been a massive overreaction. Surely a strong word in Steve's ear and a final warning about his comments would have been sufficient.
I am also interested to know who runs these courses that he is supposed to be attending? I have visions of Thommo sat behind a desk writing a hundred lines saying 'i must not say those words again.
Obviously if he ever does commentate on radio lincs again all ears will be glued to the radio. If the same situation arises will he say ' those silly chaps have had a silly fall out and are showing very mild aggressive tendencies towards each other and are acting very childishly towards eachother' i am sure the listeners will find it riveting stuff.
.
It will of course be "h.......erm...........manbags." Either that or "(female dog) slap"

Thommo's been sent on a course?
Deary me. (Keeping in polite, Casper).

And correct me if I'm wrong (and I normally am), but I'm pretty sure I've heard female commentators say "handbags". It is after all a standard football cliche, a la "early doors".

You have, several (if not many) times by mainly Northern accented female co-commentators aside a male commentator on the Beebs main channel BBC1.

Thinking aloud here- if BBC Radio Lincolnshire want an ex player style pundit why don’t they put Lee Frecklington through a broadcast journalism course and get him involved.

Get someone younger, fresh out of the game who understanding current football. Lee knows the present game having played championship down to league two and at the very least is more likely to know the names and stats of our players and the oppositions.

Get rid of Steve Thompson, I’m sick of his boring commentary, irrelevant story’s and dinosaur views and use of the English language. He can then get back on Twitter ‘liking’ and commenting on trashy porn models, classy guy!

Have you not watched the pre and post match interviews with players and ex players in the modern era that have all gone through media courses?

Every single media interview is the same. Generic and clone like no matter who they are, where they are from, who they play for. No thanks to that suggestion. Old world, cliched they may be but most of the older ex players and managers are much more interesting to listen to despite the cliches.

Any ex player that has been on one of these courses should be steered well clear off. One Adam Virgo is quite enough thank you.

Wasn't long ago we played (and beat, hurrah) Brighton in the FA Cup and we most definitely heard (some of) those songs that day!!!!

The you're shit aaaghh" is heard every FA Cup game held at any lower/non league game where the attendance is way above their usual attendance.

The course is run by the League Managers Assosciation I believe. I can’t really see what all the fuss is about, it is pretty obvious he has received a few warnings over the last few years and I’m told his public tweets were pretty borderline controversial regarding women’s football etc so to make out this is the reaction to a one off offence is well off the mark.

He certainly has that aspect in his personality.
But oddly he also gets it right quite a bit of the time too, especially lately.
Which then makes you feel quite perturbed when you find yourself agreeing with him!
