This is Never Advertised By the Club But...

...I have an old school friend on Facebook who is part of some missionary. Every year they work with Gillingham Football Club and end up donating some football kits to villages in Africa.

I’ve just seen this from him in Kenya, in which he also has a few videos of the locals conveying their appreciation to him, the missionary and Gillingham FC for the gesture.

I don’t usually like stealing photos etc from Facebook but in this case I don’t think he would mind. I don’t think I could link the videos as ot’s Facebook, but I’ll see if they’re on YouTube in the morning.

Like I say, I see this every year and it never gets advertised by the club, but the donation of a few out-of-date kits can make a great impact alongside presumably the rest of the good work this group does.

The club did use to advertise this many years ago and used to ask for donations for old football boots and shin pads and other things too. I think the advertising of this disappeared once Scally set up the Take Heart Mercy Mission charity with more focus on this.

Poor kids. Are their lives nit bad enough already.

Or as jogills would say, it is only by intensive work at all levels that we build the Part...whoops, fan base.

If anyone has any old kits it is worth searching out someone able to take them to Africa. I was able to do it with second hand kits a few years back and I know it was greatly appreciated.

Just wondering if they would have facilities to watch us play on ifollow. Would be great to think there is a gathering of people watching the games from Kenya.

The youngsters in Kenya are very knowledgeable about football with most following a premiership side as the matches are broadcast live. One of the guys who looked after our villa would happily walk 8 miles to a bar to watch a match and then walk 8 miles back - the loyalty and dedication to their team puts us to shame.

Sadly i don't think they will care much about GFC apart from the fact someone is helping them
