There could be some major changes to the laws around MOT tests for new cars.

This is what you need to know.

The government is thinking about increasing the length of time before newly-bought cars need to have their first MOT test.

At the moment cars, motorbikes and vans need an MOT test once they are three years old.

However, an ongoing Government consultation could change that to four.

The possible change, which will be welcomed by motorists, has been met with frustration by members of the repairs industry, reports Devon Live's sister title, the Bristol Post.

The Government estimates savings of £109 million collectively for motorists if the change is introduced.

Personally I think 4 years is too long, some travellers (not the ***** kind) can rack up hundreds of thousands of miles in 4 years.... Maybe 4 years is too long.

Maybe 4 years is ok if the owner can demonstrate an up-to-date annual service record or something. Could surely be logged on the DVLA computer like MOT and insurance is currently?

Doesn't bother me, I have never bought a new car so MOT is standard.
