The Villa Park Pitch

The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
Anyone else notice how the pitch is cutting up badly this season?

Years since I've seen VP like that. Usually we are amongst the best.

Loads of brown patches etc.

I'm assuming the re-seeding last summer didn't work as planned.

All joking aside, it is a lot worse this season. After years of winning prizes, it's amazing how much it seems to have degraded. It will play havoc with our slick pass-and-move tikka-takka football as the winter wears on.

There are two people i blame for the state of the pitch.

Obviously goes without saying Steve Bruce must be blamed. But i also blame John Terry whom i saw looking at Chelsea's pitch the other day.
Utter disgrace.

Strange how it’s gone so bad, it’s pretty much artificial and we had the technology in place to maintain.

Last 2 games it has looked like 1989ish.

And the under 23s will be on it on Monday. Mind it's still centre Court at Wimbledon compared to some of he pitches in the 70s.

Yes I thought that today. Unusual for us as we win awards nearly every season.

Mind you I know from cricket that there are loads of things that can affect ground preparation and a combination of factors can also play a part so perhaps the grass has been affected by some disease or something.

Agreed PVB but obviously football and pitch technology has moved on massively since then. Some of the old mud baths were unbelievable really weren't they?! LOL And far harder balls.

Hopefully they can get this sorted in the summer, and even more hopefully this wasn't outsourcing or cost saving that has led to the change in quality.

I haven't seen any recent changes in the groundsmen - do you know if there has been. I seem to remember PSG poaching but that was a while ago wasn't it?

ha, true !

Always used to think the pitch was the best thing during match days!

Just been watching crystal palace vs Chelsea fa cup tie 1971 on bt classic . The pitch is part silver blades ice rink , part rookery park rec , Ice cold day and some of the players are wearing black baseball pumps instead of football boots because of the conditions , brilliant. :14:

We played some of our best games on sand , these feckers don't know they are born. Imagine Mortimer and Cowans on plying on the latest pitches after playing beach football they had to cope with

No, not read anything. Seems odd for our pitch to look like the 1980's version doesn't it?! I'm sure they'll get it sorted in the summer.

Not the Villa Park pitch exactly, but wanted to post this without starting a whole new thread.

The old Witton Lane stand - found on the tinterweb. Bit of a blast from the past! Only sat there a couple of times, preferred the old Trinity, wooden floors and all.

What a dump!

Sat in there for 1990 Inter milan game. Right in line with Kent Nielson when he hit that shot .
Boom.
