The Villa on TV Thread

Yup part of their grand plan to shift non making longer journeys into midweek and shaft the travelling fan, whilst boosting weekend attendances (plum games, lesser distance) so it looks good when they plumb pick for the TV.

Be interesting to see how 'they position' cameras.

Living in Asia, I subscribed to AVTV (I think it was around 100 quid) so I was able to watch live Villa games that weren't being shown live anywhere else. The service provided was OK.....there were a few challenges with commentary etc...but overall certainly better than nothing. Does anyone know if the same service is being offered for this season? I can't see anything on the official website and I've had no note from AVTV asking to renew my subscription etc. I've sent an email to AVTV but had no reply as yet.

I think it is being announced this week C&B. Saw someone ask support@ on twitter.

Ah OK, thanks. I think they're leaving it late with the season starting in a couple of days but hey ho, kind of used to it by now. Hull away is live on Sky (therefore won't be on AVTV) so no big rush but you would have thought that at 100 quid a pop they might have announced subscription procedures at least some weeks ago......

Haven't the faintest as to what's happening this year, for UK viewers. There's a deal between Sky and the EFL for clubs to show the games Sky isn't showing live; I thought it kicked in next year but there's talk it might be for this season.

If so, there's no info about it; it could be on AVTV or on Youtube.

Sky will be showing al midweek league games - available via the red button

And whilst the article is about the EFL the video at the bottom show a man and woman in Manchester shirts....

Looks like UK Villa fans who don't subscribe to Sky will be able to view mid-week matches not shown by Sky live on AVTV. Great!

It's on a per match basis, £10 per match. Personally I'm fine with that if it helps the club's coffers.

Not good for me (or The Yank). We pay $5 a month for ESPN to see the Sky games, plus an additional 110 pounds for AVTV if we want to see every match... Quite frankly the price for the AVTV subscription is robbery, especially as the commentary was absolutely crap last season. The old guy (Jack Woodward I think was his name) was pretty poor but at least he was passionate and always had Tony Morley or Ken McNaught alongside him....

I don't want to sound like I'm stamping on your parade McP, but Sky will be showing all midweek Championship games this season on the red button.

So if the deal is for AVTV to only show games not broadcast by Sky, you won't see any midweek games!

Yes, it is something I have mentioned to the new owners advisors in a bit of feedback. They need to make our head of media HEAD OF MEDIA as opposed to head of part of it. He'd sort all this.

Thought Jack was woeful, thought last seasons generic doesn't give a crap and has no knowledge commentator worse.

Well pigs fly... I just read your entire post and agreed with everything you just said!!
:grinning:
Jack was bloody awful but always had a legend next to him (well sometimes it was Pat Heard). Last season the guy was just as awful as Jack except he knew very little about the villa players and on a couple of occasions (notably Sheffield Wednesday away) actually spent most of the match bashing Villa. I actually sent emails to the club to complain after the Wednesday match...

I find the guy who commentates over the highlights of the game even worse (if it's a different guy, sounds different).

He's about exciting as a wake.

No highlights show on C5 anymore ??
It's now on 'Quest' Silhill.....no I've never heard of it either....but apparently they have the gig for the next four seasons. The good news is that it's on freeview, 9pm on Sat evening and repeated Sunday at 10am. Also have highlights after midweek games which C5 didn't have. Channel 144 on Sky.

Blimey, not sure I get that channel in Spain. We pay for sky though so will use that when here
