The Ultimate City Squad

Skoorb

Alert Team
If you could pick any player who has worn the famous sky blue shirt from across all eras since MCFC was formed in 1894 whose name would be first on your team sheet?

When City fans received their Cityzen's membership pack's for the 2016/17 season one of the items included was a booklet detailing just such a squad. Developed by a panel of City fans familiar with all eras of the Club the forward from City legend Mike Summerbee stated:-

"They've taken into account the period, the league standard and the success of each team they played in as well as the trophies they won"

What do you think of their selection? Who do you think they have overlooked?

Who would YOU pick to be part of your ultimate Manchester City FC squad of 30 players?

Give us your views on VMC.

Good call. Who would you drop for Eric Brook? Dennis Tueart perhaps?

One thought of mine was maybe Peter Barnes would be a decent shout as one of the wingers?

I can only go off what I've read and clips of highlights I've seen anytime before the late 80s so I'm finding it difficult to answer that Skoorb.

But the obvious one for me, and I realise this may be seen as blasphemous, is The Goat.

4132 - but I have left out some really great players, I agree on the Eric Brook, but I wish the stats would have included assists.

Like your team Buzz, but I would change Lee for Neil Young, Kun and One pen are the same players from different times.

I knew you were old Buzz :008: but didn't think you were old enough to remember Billy Meredith

Purely from hearing about them, but surprised no mention made of Swift, Cowan, and Doherty from the 1930s side that won the Cup and League.

Peter Doherty good call

In his autobiography, Len Shackleton wrote of Doherty:

"Peter Doherty was surely the genius among geniuses. Possessor of the most baffling body swerve in football, able to perform all the tricks with the ball, owning a shot like the kick of a mule, and, with all this, having such tremendous enthusiasm for the game that he would work like a horse for ninety minutes. That was pipe-smoking Peter Doherty, the Irish redhead who, I am convinced, had enough football skill to stroll through a game smoking that pipe-and still make the other twenty-one players appear second-raters. But of course Peter never strolled through anything. His energy had to be seen to be appreciated."

Get thee behind me Satan :103:

Seriously, that's fair enough but he will always remain one of my favourite City forwards. I always loved the way he gambled and chased down lost causes. One of my favourite moments had it's anniversary only this week - his first goal during the final derby at Maine Road when he hunted down Gary Neville as a wayward pass ball drifted towards the byline, dispossessed him and slotted the ball past Barthez. One of those moments when I will always remember where I was (given how long it been since we had won a derby)

I think that was the goats 100 past Bartez for his second another great day when we shoved it up em!

I still, think Weikens was fouled when Stretford scored their only goal

On derby day the scores were level,
then The Goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!

Four players pre 1960 - and people have the **cking nerve to say we have no history.

What about the Don, and no I don't mean Trump I mean Revie, a revolutionary on the pitch and a twat off it.

And in over a hundred years is Gael Clichy really the second best player to ever to pull on a sky/lazer blue number 3 jersey?

Not we had better, Bobby MacDonald and Willie Donachie, Arthur Mann, Dave Bacuzzi, Vic Gomersall, the majority popped in more goals than GC

Perhaps more of a tipping of a hat towards the current generation - couldn't fill too many slots with 'Defenders of the Past' or it might just underline how weak our current defence currently is.

I'd probably have gone for either Donachie or Pardoe - both were regulars in my subbuteo team. Pardoe would have played more but for me kneeling on him and causing a horrible leg injury.

Subbuteo players were never the same after they got injured. All the extra glue holding them together sort of unbalanced them.

My top striker in subutteo was just a base, the figure broke off and went missing so just played with the base up front, he had a habit of ghosting past defenders unseen. Lethal he was.
