This thread is about the possible and what the club needs to do in all aspects of its operations to get to the elite level, where competing for honours is a regular occurrence.
This is the Postecoglou Edition of the Tottenham Hotspur Project because that is where we are and that is what we need to be focussed on.
This thread is not for game day histrionics or knee jerk reactions of any kind, positive or negative. In fact, it would likely be a good idea not to post here right after a game, win or lose.
I opened with the financial statements because the 2023 statements are imminent. Financially we are very competitive and that is only improving. The underpinning necessary for a consistently elite team is in place. And because of the club’s debt structure, we are in much better shape than many other clubs. United’s interest costs just tripled.
Scott Munn is beginning to step forward into the limelight. This gives more of an indication that Levy truly has stepped back and I think now that the Kane situation is resolved this is going to be a much more regular occurrence. I also think the club wants to telegraph that point to the world in general. We a run as a business now, not a mum and pop shop. And a very successful business at that.
A league wide re-emerging trend is to allow managers time to develop and acquire what they need. Arteta and Ten Haag are evidence of this, Postecoglou should be allowed the same licence. 2 years ago Arsenal supporters wanted Arteta’s head, United’s fans are starting to see the Ten Haag light. There is absolutely no reason that someone who has won as much as Postecoglou has should not be given a chance to change the course of Tottenham Hotspur history.
And let us not forget Postecoglou took the job when many wouldn’t. He’s taken as much a risk for his career and legacy as the club has in hiring him. In my opinion, he deserves a decent amount of respect and time just for that.
Personally, I think bringing Paratici back officially would be a great move by the club. I also think, much as many do, that we need at least 3 more windows to build a real powerhouse.
Where we finish this season is irrelevant as long as we see improvement, I agree with our manager on this. What we do next year will be important, but it is the year after that that really matters. This doesn’t mean that the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat won’t be a daily factor in our lives, but a longer term perspective truly matters. We have the money to build. And that needs the right people to allocate it. We are there, or close to it.
Gary’s Rating System and stat tracking are a good perspective of the trend of the team. Things are trending well. It would be good to remember that even when there are aberrant results. I use the season long stats as a benchmark. It may mask the inconsistencies, but it does show an upward trend.
That we need to strengthen the squad is inherent in what we are doing and specific player conversations can be left for the Player Thread or the Transfer thread.
There are those that believe that Postecoglou is not the man to take us forward. That is a perfectly reasonable position. However, this thread is definitely not for you as it is the Postecoglou Edition. So, until a manager is hired that you think will move us forward………….
