Spurs 'not for sale' as owner rejects buyout interest​

The board of Tottenham Hotspur says its owner has "unequivocally rejected" two expressions of interest in the north London football club and that it is "not for sale".
The announcement, external late on Sunday came after the sudden departure of executive chairman Daniel Levy last week triggered speculation that a takeover bid could be imminent.
Mr Levy was the Premier League's longest-serving chairman and is estimated to have earned more than £50m ($67.5m) during his almost quarter of a century in the role.
But he was also the target of regular protests by Spurs fans, especially last season.
The statement said ENIC Sports & Developments Holdings Ltd had rejected two separate preliminary expressions of interest in the club.
One was from former Newcastle United shareholder Amanda Staveley's PCP International Finance Limited and another from a consortium led by Dr Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng through Firehawk Holdings Limited, it said.
"The Board of the Club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the Club," the statement said.
ENIC has an almost 87% stake in Tottenham Hotspur.
UK businessman Joe Lewis and his family reportedly own the majority of ENIC, while about 30% is held by Mr Levy and his family.
In a statement last week, external, Spurs said Mr Levy's exit was "part of the Club's ambition to ensure that it is set up to deliver long-term sporting success."
At the same time Mr Levy said: "I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level."
"I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn't always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately," he added

Its very interesting timing.

We finally win something and they bin him. Should have been running the stadium project but relinquished of anything to do with football well over a decade again.

Let's see if these rumours were true. My impression was DL hands were always tied by Lewis and the lack of interest from ENIC in general.

Maybe it was the opposite but it suited DL to let us think it was JL holding us back?
 
Seems odd that Daniel would be cautious over spending as he has been) if Lewis now wants to invest and push on?
Perhaps Lewis and Daniel didn't see eye to eye over this after all??

But it's a big BUT do they the fifty percent trust n believe in the other DL(Duo Lewis)?

Imo I do not! Better the Devil you know?

For me D Levy has been used as a sacrificial Lamb....just my opinion. COYS(hopefully)
 
If you look at it purely in business terms Levy has achieved much in the area which is his forte, that is the development of the new training facilities and our fantastic stadium. Now this is complete the focus has to be on success on the pitch and under Levy's stewardship his record in this aspect hasn't been anywhere near spectacular. Clearly the thinking now is that the owners want someone at the helm who has a record of or the potential to deliver the on field success.
 
There is a significantly different management approach between owner/manager (Levy) and a true business structure that we have moved to.

Both have their pros and cons. However, micromanagement, which was a mild description when applied to Levy, always causes high management turnover and limits new ideas from emerging within the organization.

The last 5 years we have been told Levy is stepping back, but in reality his personality would not allow that. So it had to be forced by the other owners. Levy could just not let go. This is also normal. There are plenty of companies that have failed at the point when they needed professional management and the owner couldn't make the move.

That is my take on what happened. We shall now see if this first real iteration of professional management can take where we are and build on it on the pitch.

Perhaps the Lewis's, Vivienne specifically, has what it takes to select the right people to make this happen.

I trusted Levy, doesn't mean I wanted him in change anymore.

I don't agree on the sacrificial lamb. They gave him plenty of opportunity to move the club ahead but he was unable to install a professional management team to run the club and step back.

He needed to be forced tostep down and get out of the way.
 
This is a management change. Nothing more, nothing less. Levy wansn't the right person to lead the next stage.

Let's get over this and put the microscope on Charrington and Venkatesham and se what latitude they have as the main drivers.
