The Tactics Tuesday Thread

Compare that to Swansea's press. Yalcouye here makes sure he's pressing and blocking the passing lane to United's holding midfielder. Cullen blocks off a passing lane to the left centre-back.

The only let down here is Eom doesn't do a good enough blocking the passing lane, allowing the United defender to play the forward pass. He just needs to follow his marker better to block off that option.

Some other quick observations:

Galbraith is an excellent signing

Yalcouye can really cover some ground quickly, a proper workhorse and will be a useful player to press from the front

Widdel showed some brighter moments but looks like he needs to bulk up a bit to cope with the physicality of this league

Surprised how poor Sheffield United were

Inoussa added some good energy to the game when he came on, Eom's position under risk

We are so desperate for a proper 9 up top

The all-important winning goal

Sheffield United won't want to see this one back in a hurry, conceding a goal from a throw-in just inside your opponent's half.

Franco wins the ball, United have overly committed men forward and pass inside to Ronald from Cullen gives him the entire centre of the pitch to run forward into.

After a few passes into the box, a blocked shot falls kindly for Ronald to curl the ball into the bottom right corner.

It summed up Sheffield United's day. Poor, lethargic and weak in the challenge & poor team shape. The gap between their defence and attacking lines here is huge

Swansea's pass network map of their win vs Sheffield United

The thicker lines show more passes which shows how we liked to often go from keeper to centre back to the full-backs to progress the ball forward.

It also shows Cullen's lack of involvement up top

Teams will cotton on to this soon. A centre forward that can retain the ball back to goal is a must this window
Watford won't let us do it on Saturday, Sheffield United were really poor in their defensive shape, allowed us to play through them with ease. We needed a 9 to win the game comfortably.

I hope this is allowed to be posted here, I wrote a tactical analysis piece on Saturday's draw Vs Watford

All three of our wins so far have come against the bottom three. We've only played one team in the current top 10. We also have the 3rd worst attacking xG in the league.

I think we are due a drop off personally, and Leicester could be an eye opener for where we actually are as a team.

We play some teams in the top half soon too after the break, Ipswich, Soton, Preston, Bristol City.
