The Sun claims City interest in Winks

He needs to kick on. Lauded by many. Neat, tidy and diligent but not exceptional in a defensive or a ball progressing capacity. So what does that make him. If Hojberg is in fact going to sit in front of the back four it will give him a chance to flourish and get about the pitch more. I really don't think he is comfortable enough on the ball for city's style of play. Jose's more rigid style suit him better.

You just have to look at how many different centre mids it required for Klopp to win the CL and follow up with the Prem title. Regardless of whether Winks is in our best eleven, you'd always want him in that squad. Not sure people realise this, but he is such an effective player from the bench. We'd be mad to let him go at this point.

Well perhaps gladly for some and sadly for others, their interest it seems (I regret to say) is real. And after their recent humiliation, it isn't hard for me to see exactly why Pep thinks they need him or someone like him.

It would depend what deal is on the table. I would negotiate hard and make a play for Bernardo Silva. Being a fellow countryman of Jose's, he could become a stalwart for us.

Our home grown quota is on the brink as it is, I can't see us selling any English players who play regularly.

I don't see Winks as a starter but players like Gaz, Aurier, Foyth, Sissoko need selling before players like Winks.

All I can say is someones agent(s) are getting very very excited.

Hart in winks out keeps homegrown quota the same

KWP gone, Rose leaving inevitable, Davies only qualifies in Prem and not in Europe, Kane one season away from going, Dier not qualifying etc. Then some want to sell Dele and send Sess out on loan.

I don't think it is as say as one in, one out at this point. There's risk everywhere with our HG contingent.

Dele has put himself under the microscope of supporters who want him sold by consistent poor performances.

If as I fully expect we force Rose to leave (if we have to) or simply let him rot at home and keep playing him, then Sess will be going nowhere.

I fully expect Sess to have his first big season with us. Injury-free, confidence rebuilding and ready to show his best. Of course, he'll have to complete with Davies, but my hope us he'll win that, given the chance.

There is something refreshing and exciting at potentially seeing Aarons at RB and Sess and LB. That would be the way forward for me. Both young and English. Both are athletic with a high ceiling potential.

I just can't see that happening though.

Agree on Sess. Generally it's a balancing act.....

Senior Non-HG: Lloris, Gazza, Aurier, Foyth, Sanchez, Toby, Dier, Hojberg, Ndombele, Sissoko, Gio, Lamela, Son, Bergwijn, Moura,
Senior HG: Whiteman, Davies (not UEFA), Sess, CCV, Rose, Winks, Dele, Kane
U21 Non-HG: Gedson,
U21 HG: Tanganga, Skipp, Clarke

That's the 27 players on the official website. Then there are others like Cirkin and White that have been involved in the 1st team setup.

It's a good thing that we have space in the Non-HG bucket, especially if Aurier leaves. It is the HG bucket that seems more vulnerable with question marks over some leaving.

It's probably too early to be worried about it as we have space to buy in both categories. Let's see the cards that are played first.

Especially if we use them for the width both sides allowing us to accommodate Ndombele, Gio, Dele and Son in the narrower spaces. Whilst I can acknowledge Moura has improved, I still think our best eleven will have our best players in it.

Blimey this is a tough one for me. I am leaning towards taking the money !!

I'm not sure with this.....Winks for me has never quite showed or reached his potential. If he has, then I think I'd take the money, as long as we get a game changing replacement.

However, if Winks is in Jose's plans then I guess we must trust in the gaffer for another 12 months with Winks.

I can see him going there and becoming a damn star. Typical.

The signing of Højbjerg may well be the making of Winks. He's not a DM and no amount of coaching will make him a specialist in that position. And to be fair to him I think he's been pushed into that role because we've had no one else for a couple of years. With PEH in there now we should find out how good Winks really is (or isn't).
